Performance of the musical ‘Jibek’ by theJastar Theatre in Andijan

Within the framework of the Fourth International Theatre Festival of TURKSOY, the Jastar Theatre of Astana from Kazakhstan received great acclaim from both the audience and the jury for its performance of the musical ‘Jibek’.

Directed by Nurkanat Jakıpbay, a People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, the contemporary interpretation of the historical epic “Kız Jibek”, with a libretto by Gabit Müsirepov and music composed by Yevgeniy Brusilovskiy stood out for its modern theatrical language and characteristic stage design.

Large Cast and modern stage design

While the character of Jibek was performed by Nazerke Serikbolova and the role of Tölegen was performed by Meyirgat Amangeldin, the role of Bekejan was portrayed by Bekjan Kerimbaev and the role of Şege was played by Candaulet Batay and Nurbek Elibek, the role of Duriya was performed by Şehnaza Kızıhanova and Ayman Esenkızı.

At the event featuring a stage design by Erlan Tüyakov, the choir was conducted by Gulmira Kuttıbadamova, and the choreography was by Şırın Mustafina. The energy of the young cast and the fluid transitions between the scenes highlighted the aesthetic expressiveness of the play.

Jury Member Bahtigreyev: “Every resource has been mobilised for the festival”

At the end of the performance, the play which received a long standing ovation from the audience and the international jury members also earned full marks from attending professionals.

Mr. Beybit Bahtigreyev, a Kazakh theatre critic of the festival jury, spoke highly of Andijan as the host of the event and emphasised that all resources of the the city have been mobilised for the festival. Referring to the artistic success of the play, Mr. Bahtigreyev said that: “Unfortunately, very few theatre productions are conceived and staged from start to finish using original Kazakh music in our country. The musical ‘Jibek’ is a highly valuable production that fills this gap, standing out with both, its top-class directorial mastery and wonderful stage design.”

The Fourth International Theatre Festival of TURKSOY which has brought theatre lovers together in the city of Andijan in Uzbekistan, will continue to host performances by distinguished theatre ensembles from various countries of the Turkic World in the coming days.
