Members of the Union of Museums of TURKSOY came together for a mutual exchange of experience
In cooperation of the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, Members of the Union of Museums of TURKSOY came together in Istanbul and Ankara between February 24th-28th 2025 for a mutual exchange of experience for the first time. Within this framework, the staff of the Union of Museums of Almaty from Kazakhstan came together with representatives of the Musa Baran Children's Toys Museum as well as of the Sabiha Tansuğ Ethnography Museum and of the Ankara Chess Museum and mutually shared their professional knowledge and experiences.
Seminars and Technical Trainings were organised in Istanbul
The first part of the event was held in Istanbul between February 24th - 26th, 2025. Participants attended seminars and practical trainings at the Istanbul Restoration and Conservation Center and Regional Laboratory, the Archaeology Museum of Istanbul and the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts.
Presentations were made by experts on museum management, collection and conservation techniques, restoration processes and digitalisation in museology.
At the end of the first part of the event, souvenirs were handed over to Mr. Rahmi Asal, the Director of the Istanbul Archaeological Museum, Ekrem Aytar, the Director of the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, and Eftal Kiraz, the Director of the Istanbul Restoration and Conservation Center and Regional Laboratory by Dr. Barış Cavid Mövsümlü, the Head of the Department of TURKSOY for Relations with Turkic Speaking Communities on behalf of TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev.
Following the event in Istanbul, participants had the opportunity to visit the Topkapı Palace Museum, the Dolmabahçe Palace Museum and the Hagia Sophia Mosque to explore the heritage of Ottoman and Turkish-Islamic art.
The Event in Ankara ended with Cultural Visits
The second phase of the event was held in Ankara on February 27th-28th, 2025. Participants visited important museums in the capital city and had the opportunity to get acquainted with museum practices in Türkiye. Within this framework, participants visited the Mausoleum of Ataturk, July 15th, Democracy Museum, the Ethnography Museum, the Painting and Sculpture Museum and the Museum of the former Grand National Assembly as well as the Chess Museum of Ankara.
At the end of the event, participants received certificates of appreciation issued by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev and certificates appreciation issued by Dr. Umut Görgülü, the Head of the Department of Excavations and Research at the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
This programme was considered as an important step to increase cooperation among museums of the Turkic World, to share innovations in the field of museology and to contribute to the protection of the common cultural heritage.
In line with its commitment to the preservation and promotion of Turkic culture, TURKSOY will be further holding similar events to strengthen international cooperation in the field of museology and preserve the cultural heritage of the Turkic World.
