Mehmet Akif Ersoy will be commemorated in North Macedonia

Mehmet Akif ERSOY, the author of the National Anthem of the Republic of Türkiye, will be commemorated on the 150th anniversary of his birthday with events to be held in Skopje and Tetovo.

The International Organisation of Turkic Culture TURKSOY commemorates illustrious personalities of the Turkic World who contributed to the enrichment of its culture and art and carries out activities to keep their names and legacy alive.

The year 2023 was  declared  "Year of Mehmet Akif Ersoy" by by TURKSOY upon proposal of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye at the 39th Permanent Council of TURKSOY on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birthday of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the poet of the national anthem of the Republic of Türkiye.

In order to commemorate the poet of independence Mehmet Akif ERSOY who is one of the most important personalities of the Turkic World, and to keep alive his works and the cultural heritage he left behind, commemorative events including conferences have been foreseen to be held in major cultural and artistic venues of the world from Bukhara to the Silkroad throughout the year.

Following  ceremonies held in Bukhara and Baku, Mehmet Akif ERSOY will be commemorated in Skopje and Tetovo on   December 20th, 2023 within the framework of events to celebrate the  Turkish Education Day of  Turks of North Macedonia which is a national holiday held on  December 21st and wıll take place in cooperation with the Union of Turkish Civil Society Organizations of Macedonia (MATÜSİTEB), the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Skopje, the Yunus Emre Institute, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Turkish Maarif Foundation, the Authors' Union of  Türkiye and the Ankara  University of Social Sciences.
