Meeting of UNESCO National Commissions of TURKSOY member countries held in Turkmenistan
UNESCO National Commissions of TURKSOY member countries came together for their tenth meeting in the city of Ashgabat in Turkmenistan. The meeting which is held annually took place in Turkmenistan for the first time. The meeting held on May 16th, 2024 gathered the Heads of UNESCO National Commissions of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Hungary and Mongolia.
The opening speeches of the meeting where participants discussed issues pertaining to items of tangible and intangible heritage as well as prospective joint projects to be carried out in the future were delivered by Mr. Rashid Meredov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Chairman of the National Commission of Turkmenistan to UNESCO, Mr. Sultan Raev, the Secretary General of TURKSOY, Mr. Seymur Fataliyev, the Secretary of the National Commission of Azerbaijan and Mrs. Chinar Rustamova, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan to UNESCO.
TURKSOY attaches particular importance to the preservation, promotion and transmission of our cultural heritage to future generations.
In the speech he delivered at the ceremony, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev stressed the importance of the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage and said: "In line with the decision made by our Permanent Council in 2023, we established a Committee on Cultural Heritage working within TURKSOY. This committee will carry out inventory studies of tangible and intangible cultural heritage lists in the Turkic World, map our historical cultural sites, carry out scientific studies, and support the projects carried out by the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation. The work we carry out along with that of our stakeholder organisations and national commissions will contribute to foster cultural tourism between our countries. The more treasures of our cultural heritage will be promoted, the more the number of tourists visiting our respective countries will also increase and whit will of course bring about beneficial results in terms of our economy." In his speech, Mr. Raev also expressed his gratitude to the President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Mrs. Aktotu Rayimkulova as well as to state officials of Turkmenistan for their high level hospitality.
