Medal of the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan awarded to Secretary General Raev
On April 24th, 2025, the 34th Session of the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan was came together in Astana to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its establishment. The session was chaired by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Chairman of the Assembly, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During the session, which was also attended by TÜRKSOY General Secretary Sultan Raev, Sultan Raev was awarded the Medal of the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan by decree of the President of Kazakhstan.
Established in 1995, the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan plays an important role in ensuring peace, unity, and social harmony in the country, as well as strengthening Kazakhstan's peaceful and positive image in the international arena.
In his remarks to Kazakh and international media representatives, Sultan Raev emphasized that peace and reconciliation are among the most fundamental values in today's societies, stating that: “Culture, peace, goodness, and intercultural dialogue are powerful forces that promote these ideas. In general, all public and civil mechanisms aimed at strengthening national unity must be further developed.”
In his speech, President Tokayev highlighted some priorities that the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan should focus on in the coming period:
“First and foremost, the Assembly needs to revitalize its activities at the regional level. Last year, a new House of Friendship was opened in Turkistan, the spiritual and historical-cultural center of our country. Now, we must also build a similar Friendship House in the densely populated Almaty Region. This structure will become an important center in the social life of the region. Assembly offices should also be opened in districts where various ethnic groups such as Korday, Uyghur, Sayram, and Panfilov reside. Additionally, Friendship Houses are planned to be established in other city and district centers. I support this initiative. We must gradually expand the infrastructure for social harmony. Friendship Houses should be included in tourist routes that can serve as gathering points for both our citizens and foreign visitors. The relevant institution managers and local administrators should provide comprehensive support to the Assembly's efforts in the field of brotherhood among peoples. The scope of the 'Reconciliation and Peace' project should be expanded and implemented throughout the country over the next two years. The government and local administrations should take concrete steps by including the Assembly's other projects in their socio-political plans.”
Secondly, it is important to strongly promote the idea of unity and reconciliation in the media. This is an urgent responsibility, especially for the journalists' club within the Assembly. The relevant ministries and local authorities should establish a joint working model to increase the effectiveness of the Kazakhstani Assembly of Peoples' Journalists' Club by including leading media representatives. Regular support should be provided to media outlets broadcasting in the languages of ethnic groups, especially in rural areas.”
Thirdly, we must fully utilize the opportunities offered by culture and art to bring the principle of 'unity in diversity' to life. The museums of figures such as Alexander Pushkin, Taras Shevchenko, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Mikhail Sholokhov are elements that add value to Kazakhstan's cultural heritage. It is important to organize exhibitions in Astana, Almaty, and other cities to promote these museums. Unique art and ethnographic collections created by some ethnocultural associations should also be made part of our country's cultural heritage.”
Over 150 large-scale events are planned nationwide to mark the 30th anniversary of the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan is a multi-ethnic state where 124 different ethnic groups live together in harmony. According to the latest data relesed by the Kazakh National Statistics Office as of April 1st, 2025, the country's population reached 20,316,155 people.
