Medal of Outstanding Service of TURKSOY awarded to Oljas Suleymenov

In recognition of his precious  contribution to contemporary Turkic literature and Turkology, Mr. Oljas Süleymenov, one of the great figures of the Turkic World, renowned Kazakh author, poet, philosopher and turkologist, was honoured with the Medal of Outstanding Service of TURKSOY which is the  highest-ranking award  of the Organisation.

The special award ceremony, held as part of events organised following TURKSOY's declaration of 2024 as ‘ Year of Oljas Suleymenov’ was also dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the author's timeless novel, ‘Aziya.’,

TURKSOY  Secretary General Sultan Raev paid a visit to Oljas Suleymenov at his home in Almaty on this occasion and personally presented to him  the Medal of Outstanding Service of TURKSOY. During his visit, Mr. Raev noted that Suleymenov had left an indelible mark not only on Kazakh literature but also on the intellectual and artistic life of the entire Turkic World and said:

‘Oljas Suleymenov is a living legend who has broadened our intellectual horizons and kept the historical and cultural memory of our people alive through his works. It is a great honour for TURKSOY to bestow this meaningful award upon him in recognition of his unique contributions to the cultural heritage of the Turkic World.’

Mr. Oljas Suleymenov who, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the award and stated that he closely follows up TURKSOY's efforts to strengthen cultural unity among Turkic peoples also stressed  his appreciation as to  activities carried out by the organisation.

During the visit, Sectetary General Sultan Raev was accompanied by Mr. Elçin Gafarlı, the Representative of Azerbaijan to TURKSOY.
