International Symposium held in Ötüken on ‘The Integration of Nomadic Tribes and Sedentary Peoples in Inner Asian History’

In the heart of Turkic history, on the lands of Ötüken, just two kilometres from the Orkhun Inscriptions, the international symposium on ‘The Integration of Nomadic Tribes and Sedentary Peoples in Inner Asian History’ has begun  with great enthusiasm in a traditional yurt tent.

Organised with the support of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), the Istanbul University, the Mongolian National University, the Turkish Language Institution, the  Istanbul Aydın University, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), UNESCO, and the Ilteriş Foundation, the symposium is taking place in a unique atmosphere which revives the ancient tradition of the “kurultay”.

This meaningful gathering, held in the Orkhun Valley, which is part of UNESCO's World Heritage List, is attended by 33 distinguished scholars from nine countries including: Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, the People's Republic of China, and Mongolia. Sessions featuring presentations on history, language, archaeology, ethnography, and anthropology are fostering productive discussions among participants.

At the event, gratitude was expressed on behalf of TURKSOY to Mr. Enkhbayar Nambar, the 3rd President of Mongolia and Chairman of the Karakorum City Council, and Mr. L. Tur-od, a member of the Karakorum City Administration, who hosted the event and attended its opening session.

In his congratulatory message to the symposium, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev stated the following: “I sincerely believe that this meaningful symposium, held on the sacred lands of Karakurum, which has served as the capital of the Huns, Göktürks, Uighurs, and Mongols throughout history, will be a great success. TURKSOY attaches great importance to scientific studies aimed at the research on the common Turkic culture so as to ensure that  it achieves its rightful place within world culture. Studies presented by our scholars will make a significant contribution to understanding our cultural richness and passing it on to future generations.”

In his message, Secretary General Raev also stated that, as an expression of its gratitude to Mongolia TURKSOY has decided to publish Mongolian-Kazakh and Kazakh-Mongolian dictionaries in cooperation with the İlteriş Foundation, and that the presentation  of this important work will soon be held in Mongolia.

TURKSOY further pursues its mission to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Turkic World under the guidance of science, while contributing to the strengthening of common cultural ties through the support it  provides to the organization of such international symposia.
