International Silkroad Music Festival of Sheki

The 12th Sheki Silk Road International Music Festival, organised in cooperation of TURKSOY with the Alliance of Composers of Azerbaijan and the  Governorate of  Sheki  has begun. This year, the festival, which has been supported by TURKSOY since its inception featured performances by  music and dance ensembles from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkey.

On the first day of the festival which traditionally pursues its activities in the open theatre in the "Marhal" region of Sheki, the audience  had the opportunity to attend an exquisite performance of the opera  entitled "Intisar" composed by  Firengiz Alizade, the President of the Alliance of Composers of Azerbaijan.

Following its suspension due to the pandemic, the Festival which resumed its activities this year took place in the city of  Sheki, hence turning  this ancient city of Azerbaijan declared as Cultural Capital of the Turkic World by TURKSOY in 2016 into  a stage of brotherhood gathering artists from various regions of the Turkic World.

The opening ceremony of the festival was attended by Governor of Sheki Elkhan Usubov, the President of the Alliance of Composers of Azerbaijan Firengiz Alizade, the  Representative of Azerbaijan to TURKSOY Elchin Gafarli and representatives of local institutions and organisations along with amateurs of art.

In the  opening speech he delivered at the event, Governor Elkhan Usubov noted that Sheki has been traditionally hosting this festival  which gathered artists from various countries with the contribution  of TURKSOY this year, hence offering the opportunity to the audience to attend a high-level  international event.

Mrs. Firengiz Alizade who also delivered a  speech at the event expressed her happiness to have come together with  art lovers in Sheki again. Mrs. Alizade further said that  this festival organised in cooperation with TURKSOY in Sheki hosted major art ensembles and achieved great success. Mrs. Alizade further said that this year again, the  festival is and will be hosting various art ensembles  from very major countries.

Conveying the greetings of TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, Mr. Elçin Gafarlı emphasized  the fact that it is a pleasure for TURKSOY to contribute to this important festival and introduce  the culture and art of the Turkic World to a distinguished audience in this beautiful environment.

The opening speeches were followed  the opera "Intisar"  composed by Mrs. Firengiz Alizade and performed by artists  of the State Academic Opera and Ballet of Azerbaijan.

At the end of the concert, the Representative of Azerbaijan to TURKSOY Mr. Elchin Gafarli and the Governor of Sheki Mr. Elkhan Usubov offered  a plaquette dedicated to the 30th anniversary of TURKSOY to  the composer of the opera Mrs. Firengiz Alizade and handed over certificates to the performing artists.
