International Poetry Festival in the Regional Governorate of Abay
The International Poetry Festival held under the motto ‘Embrace Humanity as your Brothers and Sisters" began with great enthusiasm at the Metropolitan Library named after Abay.
Organised in cooperation of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture TURKSOY with the International Academy of Poetry named after Mihai Eminescu, the Regional Governorate of Abay, and other partner institutions, this significant cultural event aims at the translation of Abay Kunanbayulı’s unique works into 15 different languages in order to introduce his vast spiritual legacy to a wider international audience.
During the festival, numerous poets, authors, translators and distinguished figures from the literary world gathered to discuss the meaning of Abay in the contemporary world. The event featuring poem readings, literary talks, and translation workshops gathered poets and authors from countries such as Congo, the United States, Mexico, Italy, and Sweden, as well as from the Authors’ Association of the Turkic World.
Distinguished representatives of Kazakh literature, including Ulukbek Esdavlet, Svetqali Nurcan, Serik Aksonkarulu, Alim Caylıbay, Hanbibi Esenkara, Akuştap Baktıgereyeva, and Tınıştıkbek Abdikakımulu, also participated in the festival, hence, contributing to intercultural dialogue.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev stressed that Abay Kunanbayulı is not only a spiritual treasure of the Kazakh people but also of the entire Turkic World and noted that promoting this heritage on an international platform strengthens ties of brotherhood and plays a significant role in passing on cultural heritage to future generations.
Secretary General Raev also pointed out that ties of friendship between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have been further deepened through cooperation in the fields of culture and literature.
