International Koroghlu Opera
The International Organization of Turkic Culture which has been carrying out activities to foster cultural and artistic cooperation among Turkic peoples since its establishment has carried out many succesful activities including the International Koroghlu Opera which once again enchanted its audience.
In cooperation of TURKSOY with the Ministries of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan and Turkey, this masterpiece by the famous Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hacibeyli which is the first opera to have been composed in the Eastern World will be performed by a fully new cast in Turkey in January this year.
The Premiere performance hosted by the State Opera and Ballet of Mersin took place in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the birthday of the famous composer of the Turkic World Uzeyir Hacibeyli in Mersin on January 9th, 2015 with the contribution of artists from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.
The Koroghlu Opera which was performed by an international team of 250 artists in 4 countries in 2009 upon initiative of TURKSOY was performed for the first time at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in 1937. This masterpiece dealing with universal values such as freedom, equality and love has been ever since strongly appreciated by its audience wherever it has been performed.
The opera staged under Eflatun Neimetzade as Art Director features settings by Savas Camgoz and a choreography by Mehmet Balkan. The orchestra is conducted by Maestro Rauf Abdullayev from the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet and the choir is conducted by Mrs. Gulmira Kuttybadamova from the “Shabyt” Kazak State University of Fine Arts. U. Hacibeyli's "Koroglu" once again enchanted the audience thanks to the contribution of many artists and professionals .
The cast of the performances was as follows: "Koroghlu" performed by Sadyrbek Jumashov from the A.Maldybayev Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet, "Nigar" performed by Jupar Gabdullina from the State Opera and Ballet of Astana, Kazakhstan, Asel Bekbayeva, Baktybek Ibykeyev from Kyrgyzstan; Goksay Yaran, Ishyl Azaz, Emrah E. Gedik, Yusuf Ziyabuyukaslan, Kazym Erdem Ozdemir, Hakan Bolukbashy, Mustafa Ozer, Gulden Vurandemir, Okan Fidan, Alpay Noyan Ozbay, Baran Taner and Orhan Gulluer from Turkey.
The premiere performance on January 9th, 2015 will be followed by two other performances on January 12th and 16th, 2015.
