‘The Phenomenon of the Eastern Renaissance: States, Religions, Personalities and Civilisations’ was held at the Centre of Islamic Civilisation, established on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shevket Mirziyoyev.
Within the framework of the event, a plenary meeting of the Coordinating Committee, the International Council of Experts and the expanded Scientific Committee of the Islamic Civilisation Centre of Uzbekistan was held. Opening the event, Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan Hayriddin Sultanov emphasised that the rapid renewal process taking place in Uzbekistan is in line with fundamental positive changes in the educational and cultural spheres.
‘The Centre of Islamic Civilization, a bright and high spiritual symbol of the new Uzbekistan, is being built on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shevket Mirziyoyev, and the holding of such cultural heritage weeks at a high level is an indicator that our country is again becoming a centre of science and culture, the home of the Third Renaissance. It would not be an exaggeration to say that today in our ancient and unique land the torch of great thinkers, whose lives and works enlightened the world of science, is shining again. Efforts in this direction are a great project carried out in the cultural, social and humanitarian fields in the Islamic Civilisation Centre established on the initiative of our head of state. This centre is also important in that it reflects the history, traditions and values of our state, as well as the goals and tasks of the Development Strategy, which includes the modern and future goals of our country. We all know well that only being proud of the past and great ancestors will not take us forward. We are determined to build a new life, a new society and a new civilisation with a new mindset, based on the high levels achieved by our ancestors, and to take our rightful place in today's global world. In this sense, the Centre for Islamic Civilisation in Uzbekistan should serve to educate young people - the architects of the new civilisation - who think freely and independently, master modern knowledge and technologies.
Secretary General Sultan Raev: ‘The cultural heritage of Uzbekistan is of great value for the entire Turkic world.
In his speech at the conference, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev emphasised that the ancient territory of Uzbekistan is a unique cradle of ancient science, culture and art, and this scientific heritage is extremely valuable for the Turkic peoples and humanity in general. ‘The bright results of the innovations carried out in the field of education are a tangible result of the initiative, farsighted, humane, enlightened and peace-loving policies of President Shevket Mirziyoyev. Today Uzbekistan is achieving tremendous successes in preserving, revitalising and promoting spiritual and intellectual heritage. The auspicious and far-reaching efforts in this field are extremely exemplary.‘’ He added.

On June 23rd, 2017, the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On Measures to Establish the Centre for Islamic Civilisation in Uzbekistan under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan’ was adopted. Since then, extensive work has begun on the establishment of the Centre for Islamic Civilisation in Uzbekistan. In June 2018, the President personally laid the cornerstone of the center and said: ‘The purpose of the construction of this center is to study Islamic civilization, to introduce the heritage of our great ancestors to our people and the world community. To date, the President of the Republic has repeatedly visited the centre and personally inspected the project and the construction process. In particular, about ten decrees, resolutions and other legal acts have been adopted to improve the activities of the centre. A great deal of work has been accomplished in the past seven years. However, the experience of local and international scientists, experts and consultants is needed to implement this mega project.
During the meeting, future activities of the Islamic Civilisation Centre of Uzbekistan, its structure and various projects to be implemented at the Centre were presented to the participants.
