International Academic Conference on Magtumguly Pyragy and Literature in the Turkic World

The opening speeches of the conference held on  July 11th,  2023 were delivered by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Ankara H. E. Mr. Mekan Isankuliev and the Director of the Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan Davut Orazsahedov. The event was moderated by Mr. Yakup Ömeroğlu, the President of the Authors' Union of  Eurasia and Mr. Abdurrahman Güzel, the President of the Turkmenistan-Turkey Friendship Association.

 

The conference gathered the Ambassador of the Republic of  Kazakhstan to Ankara H. E. Mr. Yerkebulan Sapiyev, the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Ankara H. E. Mr. Ruslan Kazakbayev, TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Mr. Sayit Yusuf, the Secretary General of the Union of Architects and Engineers of the Turkic World Mr. Ilyas Demirci and many other guests attended the conference. Paper presentations were made by  Prof. Dr. Melek Erdem, Head of the Department of South-Western (Oghuz) Turkic Dialects and Literatures at the Ankara University, Gızılgül Tagandurdıyeva, Field Specialist of the Mahtumkulu Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Prof. Dr. Erkin Emet, Prof. Dr. Gülzura Jumakun,  Dr. Emrah Yılmaz,  Faculty Member of the  Department of Contemporary Turkic Dialects and Literatures of the  Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Mrs. Bayrambike Toylıyeva, Field Specialist of the Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Mahtumkulu Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Turkmenistan Academy of Sciences, Tuğba Doğan, young researcher, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berdi Sarıyev, Lecturer at Ankara University, Department of South-Western (Oghuz) Turkic Dialects and Literatures.

 

Secretary General Sultan Raev: ''Our voices will sing Magtumguly, our hands will hold each other tightly. God willing, we will succeed on this path together!''

 

Secretary General Sultan Raev, who started his speech by saying: ''Keeping alive our values that make us who we are and ensure that our cultural richness, which we are proud of, has taken root and has come to this day, and bequeathing them to future generations is the most important basis of our continued existence,'' stated that Magtumguly Pyragy is a very important figure for the Turkic World. Secretary General Raev said: "We once again remember Magtumguly Pyragy, the pride of not only Turkmenistan but also the entire Turkic World, as a requirement of our respect for him. His unique poems and philosophy, which he bequeathed to us, continue to guide and inspire our cultural people today. The Permanent Council of TURKSOY  declared the years 2014  and 2024 as year of the Turkmen poet Magtumguly Pyragy on the occasion of the -290th and 300th anniversary of his birthday. In addition to this, the city of Anev was awarded the title of  Cultural Capital of the Turkic World in 2024. Next year is of great importance for our Organization and Turkmenistan. In this context, I pray  Almighty Allah that  activities to be organised under the auspices of the President of Turkmenistan Mr Serdar Berdimuhammedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen People, President of the People's Assembly of Turkmenistan Mr Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov will be auspicious and fruitful. We carry on our shoulders the historical responsibility we have been entrusted with by our ancestors. We have to transfer our trust to future generations. We will continue to work hard for this. Our voices will sing Magtumguly, our hands will hold each other tightly. God willing, we will  succeed all together on this path!''

 

Ambassador Isankuliyev: "The poems of Magtumguly Pyragy meet the spiritual needs of not only the Turkmen people but also humanity as a  whole.

 

Delivering the opening speech of the event, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Ankara Mekan Ishankuliyev drew attention to the universal character of Magtumguly Pyragy and said: “The poems of Magtumguly Pyragy meet the spiritual needs of not only the Turkmen people but also of humanity as a whole.”

 

Ambassador Isankuliyev stated that Magtumguly Firaki always dreamed of the Turkmen people to live in peace and tranquility: "The greatest value of Magtumguly Pyragy for the Turkmen people is his struggle for the unity of Turkmen people. For a long time, many generations of Turkmen people have been raised and educated with his lessons of unity. Today, under the wise leadership of our President Sardor Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Ardag Gurbangulyu Berdimuhamedov, the ideas and dreams of Magtumguly have become a reality.

 

Noting that 2024 will be celebrated all over the world as the 300th anniversary of the birthday of Magtumguly Pyragy, Ambassador Ishankuliyev thanked TURKSOY and Secretary General Sultan Raev for the event.

 

At the end of the event, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev handed over certificates to  participants of the academic conference and   30th Anniversary Medals of TURKSOY to Davut Orazsahedov, the  Director of the Magtumguly Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the  Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.  After the ceremony, traditional Turkmen pilaf was served to all conference participants.
