High-Level visit to Governor Vasip Şahin: cultural bridge between Andijan and Ankara

High-level visit

A delegation from Andijan, the city in Uzbekistan designated as the 2026 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World, paid a visit to Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin at his office as part of their contacts in Ankara.

The delegation, headed by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev was composed of the Deputy Governor of Andijan Elyorbek Holmirzaev and Sarvarbek Foziljonov, the Head of the Department of International Cooperation and International Indices and Rankings at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who were in Türkiye for promotional events organised by TURKSOY.

During the visit, discussions focused on institutionalising bilateral relations between Ankara, designated as the “Capital of Tourism of the Turkic World 2026" and Andijan, designated as the “Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2026”. During the meeting, discussions took place regarding joint projects, cultural festivals and tourism initiatives to be carried out simultaneously and in a coordinated manner in both cities throughout 2026.

Cultural Cooperation and Global Recognition

Governor Vasip Şahin expressed his pleasure to host a delegation from  Andijan in Ankara, emphasising that the ties between the two sister cities would contribute to the unity of the Turkic World. TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev noted that the “Capital City” status of Ankara and Andijan in 2026 represents a strategic opportunity for Turkic cultural diplomacy.

The meeting ended with a reception and the exchange of gifts along with messages of cooperation.
