Forum on Reforms in the Fields of Culture and Art in New Uzbekistan
The international forum on ‘Reforms in the Fields of Culture and Art in New Uzbekistan’ kicked off in Tashkent on October 24th, 2024 with a large turnout. The forum was organised by the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan within the framewok of the International Week of Cultural Heritage, where participants discussed the international impact of cultural reforms. Experts and cultural representatives from various countries took part in the sessions, noting that the steps taken by Uzbekistan in the cultural sphere have resonated around the world.
The opening ceremony of the forum began with a presentation on cultural reforms by the Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan Mr. Ozodbek Nazarbekov who emphasised the country's innovations in the field of art and culture as well as initiatives undertaken to preserve its national heritage.
In the session where international experts took the floor, the President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Aktoti Raimkulova emphasised the importance of cultural cooperation with the Turkic World, while TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev discussed the need to preserve the cultural heritage of the Turkic World and transmit it to future generations. The Secretary General of the Turkic Parliamentary Assembly (TURKPA) Mehmet Süreyya Er who also took part in the forum touched upon the contribution of parliamentary cooperation in the Turkic World to cultural diplomacy.
Raev: Cultural heritage is a force shaping the future
Secretary General Sultan Raev who delivered a speech on ‘Cultural Renaissance in a Changing World’ at the forum stressed that the preservation of cultural identities in today's world strengthens peace and mutual understanding between countries and further said that cultural heritage is not only a memory of the past, but also a force which shapes the future. Mr. Raev who pursued his speech saying that ‘Cultural heritage defines us as a nation and binds us to each other’ also touched upon ‘the power of intangible cultural heritage’. Referring to the deep-rooted traditions of Uzbekistan, Secretary General Raev said that this heritage is not only cultural, but also forms the backbone of national identity. Stressing the importance of the preservtion of this heritage in the Turkic World, Secretary General Raev refered to various projects carried out by TURKSOY in this field.
Within this framework, Mr. Raev touched upon the power of art and culture to unite the Turkic World and gave examples of cultural projects carried out in recent years to illlustrate the fact that cultural exchanges and cooperation do not only strengthen ties between Turkic-speaking nations but also creates both, a regional and global impact through the sharing of the common heritage of the Turkic World.
Mr. Raev also touched upon the issue of ‘Cultural Diplomacy’ and explained that cultural initiatives support peace and dialogue between countries. Giving examples from his own diplomatic experiences, Secretary General Raev stated that culture is a universal language and added that societies speaking this language establish stronger ties with each other.
The forum also featured the presentation of the book on ‘Traditional Music Instruments of Turkic Speaking Countries’ which took place in the presence of the Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan Mr. Ozodbek Nazarbekov. Participants who attended the presentation event expressed their wish as to the further continuation of activities carried out concerning the common musical heritage of the Turkic World.
The opening session of the forum featured various contributions by international experts. The forum on ‘Reforms in the Fields of Culture and Art in New Uzbekistan’ will continue with presentations by cultural representatives from various countries.
