Forum on Muslim Diasporas held in Ankara

The 1st Forum on Muslim Diasporas organised in cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) and the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) took place in Ankara. Held under the motto ‘From Roots to Horizons’, the forum was attended by Vice-President Cevdet Yılmaz, the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, ambassadors, ministers and representatives of international organisations.

Issues on the agenda of the forum were the future of ties established by Muslim communities living in various parts of the world with their host societies whilst preserving their cultural and historical roots, the ‘soft power’ potential that could emerge on a global scale through their gathering around shared values, and the critical role of the Islamic diaspora in raising worldwide awareness about the Palestinian struggle amidst the ongoing situation in Gaza.

In his speech, the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy noted that, from past to present, Muslim diasporas have generated positive value in many fields  ranging from science to art, and from entrepreneurship to public service and emphasised the need to build a strong ecosystem which will foster greater solidarity.

Mr. Sultan Raev, the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) will present his assessments and address the forum during the session to be held on  September 9th, 2026.
