Exhibition on ‘Aitmatov and the World of Painting' inaugurated in Bishkek
The exhibition on ‘Aitmatov and the World of Painting,’ introducing the artistic and intellectual legacy of Chngis Aitmatov, the world-famous representative of Kyrgyz literature, with visual arts was inaugurated on June 8th, 2025 at the Gapar Aitiyev National Art Museum in Bishkek.
The exhibition held within the framework of the international forum on ‘Chingis Aiitmatov, the Future of the Turkic World,’ under the leadership of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) was organised in cooperation with the Chingis Aitmatov Institute and the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policies of the Kyrgyz Republic with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), and the Yunus Emre Institute.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition featuring numerous paintings inspired by Chingis Aitmatov's works started with short welcoming speeches by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev and Prof. Dr. Ilyas Topsakal, Member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly from Samsun and President of the Chingis Aitmatov Institute. While Secretary General Raev noted that Aitmatov is not only part of the collective memory of the Kyrgyz people but also of the entire Turkic World, Prof. Dr. Ilyas Topsakal stressed that Aitmatov's intellectual world sheds light not only upon the past but also upon the future.
Prof. Dr. Sakit Mammedov, State Artist and painter from Azerbaijan and Mr. Eldar Aytmatov, the son of Chigis Aitmatov and President of the Chingis Aitmatov Foundation who were also present at the ceremony both delivered speeches in which they highlighted Aitmatov's connection to art and the profound legacy he left behind.
Following the opening and welcoming speeches, the exhibition curated by Jakshybek Junushev, the President of the Association of Artissts of the Kyrgyz Republic was inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and art lovers had the opportunity to examine works reflecting Aitmatov's literary depth.
The aim of this meaningful exhibition which will remain open to visitors until June 13th, 2025, is to introduce Chingis Aitmatov and his precious intellectual and artistic legacy to future generations as one of the most outstanding common cultural values of the Turkic World.
