Establishment of the Union of Cinema of the Turkic World

The Cinema Forum of the Turkic World  took place on September 30th,  2023 within the framework of the 15th International Film Festival of Tashkent held under the motto "The Pearl of the Silkroad" and organized in cooperation of the Agency of Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan with the International Organization of Turkic Culture  (TURKSOY). 

The forum was attended by cinema officials from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey, as well as nearly 100 directors, screenwriters and actors.

The opening speeches of the forum moderated by Shuhrat Rızayev were delivered by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev and Head of the Cinematography Agency of the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan Firdavs Abduhalikov.

Following the opening speeches, Orhan Fikretoğlu, Advisor to the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan on behalf of the Azerbaijani delegation, Erjan Jumabekov, Representative of the Kazakhstan Academy of Cinema on behalf of the Kazakhstan delegation, Gülbara Tölömüşova, Member of the Kyrgyz Union of Cinematography of Kyrgyzstan on behalf of the Kyrgyzstan delegation, T. T. Tölöömushova, Member of the Union of Cinematography of Kyrgyzstan on behalf of the Turkish delegation. Erkin Yılmaz, Director General of Cinema of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, Sahısalıh Bayramov, Deputy Director of Oguzhan "Turkmenfilm" on behalf of the delegation of Turkmenistan, and Mayra Karsakbayeva, Advisor to TURKSOY Secretary General on Cinema, made presentations on the present and future of the Turkic World Cinema. Proposals on the establishment of the Union of Cinema of  the Turkic World were also put forward by the Forum participants.

After a short discussion on the proposal, a decision was made on the establishment of the Union of Cinema  of the Turkic World . Following the  negotiations, Firdavs Abduhalikov, the Head of the  Agency of Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan, was unanimously elected as the President of the Union of Cinema of the Turkic World. 

The process leading to the  signature of the the protocol on the establishment of the Union of Cinema of the Turkic World  is expected to  be completed within the framework of the  Korkut Ata Film Festival to be held in Azerbaijan in the coming days.
