Establishment of the Authors' Union of TURKSOY
The “Authors' Union of TURKSOY” which is expected to bring a breath of fresh air to the literature in the Turkic World, was established in a meeting held at in the Headquarters of TURKSOY.
The aim of this union will be to make it possible for authors living in the Turkic geography to get acquainted with each other, to identify common problems and to promote authors of the Turkic World and their works by carrying out various activities.
The meeting hosted by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev was attended by Selim Babullaoğlu, Secretary of the Authors' Union of Azerbaijan, Ulugbek Esdaulet, President of the Authors' Union of Kazakhstan, Nurlanbek Kalybekov, President of the Authors' Union of Kyrgyzstan, Sirojiddin Sayyid, President of the Authors' Union of Uzbekistan, Mahmut Erdemir, Member of the Board of Directors of the Authors' Union of Turkey, Yakup Ömeroğlu, President of the Authors' Union of Eurasia and Handurdi Turayev, Second Clerk of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ankara.
In the opening speech he delivered at the meeting, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev emphasised that the devastating earthquakes in Turkey, which caused great losses, have deeply saddened the Turkic World and said: "The earthquake experienced by our Turkish brothers and sisters was a great sorrow for us, Turkic peoples and other nations. The sorrow of our Turkish brothers is our sorrow, the troubles of our Turkish brothers are our troubles. We are brothers, therefore our sorrows are the same. Turkey will definitely overcome these difficult days. Because we are the closest brothers and sisters who stand by Turkey in good times and bad times. " he said.
Mr. Raev urged participants to observe a minute of silence for the martyrs who passed away in the earthquake. Pursuing his speech after the minute of silence, Secretary General Raev said: "One of the important reasons why we have come together in TURKSOY Headquarters today is to discuss the future of Turkic literature, to strengthen the connections between the literatures of the Turkic World and to create a bridge between them. Our sacred duty in TURKSOY is to be a solid bridge for the culture of all Turkic peoples, to bring kindred Turkic peoples closer together through literature and culture and to foster their unity and solidarity. The locomotive of Turkic culture is literature.
Literature is the blood in the main veins of culture."
Expressing his belief that today's historical process has brought our civilisation to a new Renaissance period, Sultan Raev said: "I believe that only the unification of Turkic peoples will bring Turkic literature and culture back into being and restart the Renaissance period of Turkic culture. TURKSOY has a great role to play here. TURKSOY, we see the future of our culture in the direction of all civilisational integration. One of my most important tasks as Secretary General of TURKSOY is to foster unity among peoples of the Turkic World and civilization and to strengthen their communication.
The important aim of TURKSOY is to ensure the rapprochement among our countries through our cultures so as to consolidate the Turkic unity.
Our most important slogan is unity in language, ideas and work!"
In their speeches, the participants of the meeting emphasised the work of the institutions they represent and the important activities of TURKSOY in the field of literature and emphasised their belief that the union to be established will bring a new impetus to the field of literature of the Turkic geography.
Following the opening speeches, the meeting continued with a working session. At the end of the meeting, the document on the establishment of "TURKSOY Writers' Union" was signed by the participants.
In accordance with the decision taken, President of the Authors' Union of Kazakhstan Ulugbek Esdaulet was elected as the Chairman of the Union of Writers of TURKSOY. The Presidents of the Writers' Union of the member countries of TURKSOY were also appointed Vice-Presidents.
It was also decided at the meeting that President of the Union of Authors of Azerbaijan Anar Rzayev will be elected Honorary President of the Union of Authors of TURKSOY and the first meeting of the Union of Authors of TURKSOY will be held in Uzbekistan at the end of March this year.

The Working Meeting of the Authors' Union of TURKSOY Member States held on March 6th, 2023 in the Headquarters of TURKSOY was hosted by the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY. The meeting was chaired by Secretary General Sultan RAEV and attended by Selim BABULLAOĞLU, Secretary for International Relations of the Authors' Union of Azerbaijan, Ulugbek ESDAULET, President of the Authors' Union of Kazakhstan, Nurlanbek KALYBEKOV, President of the Authors' Union of Kyrgyzstan, Sirojiddin SAYYİD, President of the Authors' Union of Uzbekistan, Mahmut ERDEMIR, Member of the Board of Directors of the Authors' Union of Turkey, Yakup ÖMEROĞLU, President of the Authors' Union of Eurasia and Handurdi TURAYEV, 2nd Clerk of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ankara.
All members of the Working Meeting of the Union of Authors of TURKSOY Member States expressed their gratitude to the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture TURKSOY Sultan RAEV and all those who contributed to the successful holding of the meeting.
In line with its strong commitment to literature in the Turkic World TURKSOY took initiatives in 2013 to establish an Auhors' Union within its structure. However, due to impediments of its activities during the Covid-19 pandemic, TURKSOY had to postpone the actual fulfilment of this mission. Now, as new opportunities are coming up, TURKSOY has decided to provide the Union of Writers with an institutional structure.
Taking into account the above-mentioned and taking into account the proposals and opinions of the participants, the Working Meeting of the Union of Authors of the Member States of TURKSOY unanimously adopted the following decisions
Participants of the meeting decided that the afore-mentioned institution to be established within TURKSOY, the International Organisation of Turkic Culture shall be refered to as “Authors' Union of TURKSOY” and shall also have an "International" status.
The working meeting unanimously adopted the Charter of the Authors' Union of TURKSOY.
On the basis of the Charter, the President of the Authors' Union of Kazakhstan Ulugbek ESDAULET (Kazakhstan) was elected as the Chairman of the Authors' Union of Kazakhstan (for two years), the candidates approved by the Authors' Unions of the member countries (Selim BABULLAOĞLU, Secretary for International Relations of the Authors' Union of Azerbaijan, Nurlanbek KALYBEKOV, President of the Authors' Union of Kyrgyzstan, Sirojiddin SAYYID, President of the Authors' Union of Uzbekistan, Prof. Dr. Musa Kazım ARICAN, President of the Authors' Union of Turkey, Yakup ÖMEROĞLU, President of the Authors' Union of Eurasia, Murat KAHRAMAN from the Secretariat General of TURKSOY as the General Coordinator of the Coordination Centre. Dr. Musa Kazım ARICAN, President of the Authors' Union of Turkey, Yakup ÖMEROĞLU, President of the Authors' Union of Eurasia, and Murat KAHRAMAN from TURKSOY were elected as the General Coordinators of the Coordination Centre.
Upon request of the members of the working meeting, the famous Azerbaijani author of the Turkic World Anar RZAYEV was unanimously elected as the Honorary President of the Authors' Union of TURKSOY.
The elected secretariat was requested to prepare and submit all organisational documents and documents of the Authors' Union of TURKSOY by the time of its first meeting which shall be held on March 29th-30th, 2023 in the city of Navoi in Uzbekistan.
For 2023-2024, the Authors' Union of TURKSOY, which provides an opportunity for mutual exchange of information, exchange of experience and cooperation, will organise meetings, joint activities and promotions of poets and authors among its members in order to develop expertise in the field of literature and follow innovations. Proposals to be submitted by members in this respect are expected to be duly evaluated with a view to be taken into account in activities of the Union to come.
