Eighth Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions held in Astana
Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, hosted an important meeting that shed light on humanity's quest for peace and dialogue. The 8th Congress of World and Traditional Religious Leaders was held with the theme of peace, humanity's most fundamental value, at its core, in today's challenging geopolitical circumstances.
The congress, attended by numerous religious leaders from around the world, addressed the preservation of global peace, interfaith tolerance and the strengthening of common values. In his opening speech at the congress, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the role of religious leaders in today's world and emphasised the importance of dialogue in preserving peace and stability. President Tokayev also stressed that the Astana platform is a unique space of global dialogue, noting that this initiative is a concrete manifestation of Kazakhstan's active and constructive foreign policy.
Sultan Raev, Secretary General of TURKSOY, also attended the congress and stated that the understanding of peace and tolerance, nourished by the common cultural values of the Turkic World, is a guiding force for the future of humanity. Raev shared his thoughts, saying, "Astana has become a symbol of peace and mutual understanding not only for Kazakhstan but for the whole world. The ancient civilisational heritage of the Turkic World also makes significant contributions to humanity's common ideal of peace."
At the congress, which emphasised that the Spirit of Astana is an unparalleled call for peace, religious leaders also delivered resolute messages for the preservation of world peace and declared a common will on behalf of humanity.
