Deputy Secretary General Yusuf: Whatever we see in Taurus Mountains, Ashgabat and Tashkent, we saw the same in Aktau - Unity in Language, Ideas and Work
Aktau, one of the most important cities of Kazakhstan on the Caspian coast, is preparing to host a magnificent opening ceremony after being declared the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World for 2025. Speaking at a special broadcast of TRT Avaz, TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf explained in detail the preparations before the opening ceremony and the background of this meaningful title.
Deputy Secretary General Yusuf emphasised that although Aktau is a young city, the Mangistau region where it is located is home to thousands of years of Turkic history. Yusuf reminded that this region was an important transit route especially during the migration journey of Oghuz Turks to Anatolia and said: ‘Although Aktau may seem like a small city today, it has a great potential to introduce the common values of the Turkic World to the world thanks to the opportunities offered by the Caspian Sea and its strategic location.’
Referring to the importance of the Capital of Culture of the Turkic World since 2012, Yusuf said that TURKSOY continues this organisation in order to strengthen cultural cooperation and make the common heritage visible. Aktau was chosen as the capital of culture in 2023 by the decision of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY on the proposal of Kazakhstan.
Mr. Yusuf also stated that the opening ceremony is just the beginning as dozens of cultural events will be organised in Aktau throughout the year, which will both strengthen the ties within the Turkic World and promote it more effectively to the international community.
In the tents in Aktau, events bearing the cultural traces of different Turkic communities are combined with the best examples of traditional hospitality. Sayit Yusuf said: ‘We saw here what we saw in Taurus Mountains, Ashgabat and Tashkent. Tracing the footsteps of our ancestors in this geography and speaking the same cultural language reminds us that we are members of a great nation.’
TURKSOY will organise many events throughout the year in Aktau, which was selected as the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World for 2025, and will carry out important activities to promote the common Turkic World culture to the world.
