Critical summit on the joint cinema project of the Turkic World “Nasreddin Hoja” held in Astana

Preparations are in full swing for the film “Nasreddin Hoja, Friend of Hard Times” a major project to carry the shared cultural heritage of the Turkic World into the future through the power of cinema. A high-level working meeting was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, to evaluate the implementation process of the project.

 

The meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was attended by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, the Chairman of the Kazakh Culture Committee Yerlan Dakenov and the film's producer Zaur Darabzade.

 

Sultan Raev: “Nasreddin Hoja is the Common Wisdom of the Turkic World”

Secretary General Sultan Raev who highlighted the historical background of the project in his opening remarks also recalled that the decision to bring a legendary figure like Nasreddin Hoja to the silver screen was made at the 40th Session of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY held in Shusha, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2023. 

 

Emphasizing that the project is not just a film but a cultural bridge uniting Turkic peoples, Secretary General Raev stated that the project is being carried out with the full support of the ministries of culture of member countries.

 

Date Set for the Filming in Kazakhstan

The Chairman of the Culture Committee Yerlan Dakenov who stressed the  commitment of Kazakhstan to the project, said they were proud to be part of this international production and added that any support necessary will be provided for the filming process in Kazakhstan.

 

The producer of the film Zaur Darabzade who shared technical details about the project in his presentation announced the critical schedule said: “The story of Nasreddin Hoja will be revived in the heart of the steppe. According to our plans, the filming of the movie's important scenes will take place in Kazakhstan in April 2026.”

 

Six Countries, One Heritage

Directed and written by Vagif Mustafayev, the People's Artist of Azerbaijan and master director, the film brings together filmmakers from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan under the auspices of the Turkic World as part of a joint cultural initiative.
