Conference on "The Role of Turkestan in the History of Turkic Peoples" held in Uzbekistan
A conference on "The Role of Turkestan in the History of Turkic Peoples" was held in Uzbekistan.
The conference, organised by the Geographical Council of Turkic States of the Organisation of Turkic States (CIS) and the University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan gathered TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf, CIS Deputy Secretary General Mirvahid Azimov, Secretary General of the Geographical Council of Turkic States Aybek Narinbayev, the Rector of the University of Journalism and Mass Communication Şerzad Kudrathocayev, the Rector of the Istanbul Commerce University Abdülhamit Avşar, the Director of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan Azamat Ziya and the Ambassador of Türkiye to Tashkent H. E. Mr. Olgan Bekar as well as many scholars from Turkic states and communities.
In the opening speech he delivered at the conference, TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf stressed the importance of Turkestan in the history of Turkic peoples and said: “If you remove Turkestan from the history of Turkic peoples, there is nothing left. In fact, if we remove Turkestan from the history of world civilisation, there is nothing left. In this respect, it is meaningful and important that such an issue is being discussed in Uzbekistan in a very important important region which is the very heart of Turkestan.”Mr. Yusuf further stated that this unity among scholars will serve the future of the Turkic World.
Sessions held in the two-day conference dealt with topics such as politics and governance in Turkestan, the foundations of Turkic state traditions, science and culture in Turkestan in the Middle Ages, architectural structures and art of Turkestan, the role and importance of Turkestan in the life of Turkic peoples.
