Conference on the Heritage of Kashgarly Mahmud held in Kyrgyzstan
On 1 June 2023, the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) and the Kassym Tynystan Uulu Issyk-Kul State University organiszed an international conference on "Kashgarli Mahmud and His Legacy in the Context of World Civilisation".
The Conference gathered TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, the First Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth of the Kyrgyz Republic Kayrat Imanaliyev, the Governor of Karakol Chingyz Bakayev, the President of the Union of Municipalities of the Turkic World (TDBB) Fahri Solak, the Representative of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Nuri Aksu, the Mayor of Gebze Zinnur Büyükgöz and the Mayor of Uchisar Osman Süslü Ramazan along with well-known scientists and members of the press media.
In the opening speech he delivered at the conference, TURKSOY Secretary General Raev said: "The time has come to adequately research the life and dictionary of Kâshgarlı Mahmud, the ancestor of Turkic lexicography, and author of the Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk, which sheds light upon many aspects of Turkish language, to all Turkic peoples and we will achieve this."
Secretary General Raev also spoke about UNESCO's Commemoration and Celebration Programme and announced that the commemoration of Kâshgarlı Mahmud on the occasion of the "950th Anniversary of the Writing of Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk" has been included in the the 2024-2025 agenda of Commemorations and Celebration Anniversaries of UNESCO which is to be approved by the 42nd UNESCO General Conference.
Within the scope of the event, delegates from Turkey visited the village of Barsgani, the hometown of Kashgarly Mahmud. The delegation had a conversation with the villagers and exchanged ideas on the construction of statues and museums of Kashgarly Mahmud.
