Condolence message of Secretary General Raev on the passing of the People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Rasim Balayev

It is with deep sorrow that I have been informed of the passing of Rasim Balayev in Istanbul. The resounding voice of the Turkic World and  living legend of our cinema will always be remembered as the majestic incarnation of our ancient history on the silver screen.

Indeed, Rasim Balayev was not merely an actor. He was the embodiment of  Nesimi’s justice, Babek’s courage and Dede Korkut’s wisdom. He left an indelible mark on the collective memory of Turkic peoples through every character he portrayed and built priceless bridges for the cultural unity of the Turkic World through his art.

His passing is an irreparable loss not only for dear Azerbaijan but for the entire Turkic World.

As a fellow author and artistic companion, I pray for the mercy of Allah upon the late Rasim Balayev, and extend my deepest condolences to his grieving family, the Azerbaijani artistic community, and the entire Turkic World.

The memory of ‘our Nesimi’ will live on forever through the artists he nurtured and the unique works he left behind. 

May his soul rest in peace, and may his resting place be paradise.
