Condolence message from TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev on the passing of Prof. Dr. Ilber Ortaylı

It is with deep sorrow that I have been informed of the passing of Prof. Dr. Ilber Ortaylı, a great scholar of the Turkic World and one of the most important guides to our shared history and culture.

Professor Ortaylı was an exceptional scholar who shed light upon the past not only of Türkiye but of the entire Turkic World, commanding respect beyond borders with his vast knowledge. His contributions to Turkic cultural heritage through his written works and the generations he mentored will never be forgotten. His passing is a great loss for all Turkic peoples and the academic world.

On behalf of TURKSOY and the Turkic World, I pray for God’s mercy upon our esteemed professor and hereby express my sincere condolences to his family, his students and the entire academic community. May his resting place be paradise."
