Commemorative event dedicated to the 180th annivrsary of the birthday of Jambıl Jabayev held in Almaty

On February 27th, 2025, an event  was held under the motto “Ata Tolğauı” in the grand hall of the Jambıl Kazakh State Academic Philharmonic in Almaty to mark the 180th anniversary of the birthday of Jambıl Jabayev, the great poet of the Turkic World.

 

The event was attended by representatives of the state and society of Kazakhstan, President of the Authors' Association of Kazakhstan Mereke Qulkenov, Philharmonic Director Nurğısa Däueşov, Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture TURKSOY Sultan Raev, the Director of the “Kazaqkonsert” State Academic Concert Organization named after Roza Bağlanova Akan Abdiualiev and  the Representative of Kazakhstan to TURKSOY Mrs. Nışankül Karataeva along with many poets, authors and members of the press media.

 

Sultan Raev: “Jambıl's voice is the conscience of the Turkic World”

Speaking at the opening of the event, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev emphasized that Jambıl Jabayev holds a special place not only in the memory of the Kazakh people, but also in the collective memory of the entire Turkic World. Secretary General Raev further stated: “Jambıl's voice is the conscience of the Turkic World. Keeping his legacy alive means strengthening our common cultural identity and sense of unity.” Following his speech, Secretary General Raev handed over medals and certificates of appreciation of TURKSOY to philharmonic artists who have worked in the field of art for many years.

 

At the commemorative event, the Nurğısa Tilenidiev Academic Folkloric-Ethnographic “Otrar Sazı” Orchestra, the B. Baykadamov State Choir, and artists from the Jambıl district of the Almaty took the scene under Maestro Bakıtbek Tilegenov, People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Maestro Jalğasbek Begendikov, People's Artist of Kazakhstan.

 

The event also featured performances of works by Jambıl Jabayev, such as “Jaz,” “Akındarga Arnau,” and “Jas Ekpin,” as well as Nurğısa Tilenidiev's “Ata Tolğauı,” M. Mañğıtaev's “Jambıl Jaylauı,” and other works by Kazakh and Kyrgyz composers. Soloists included Maqpal Qazıbekqızı, Rahmatalı Saparaali uulu (Kyrgyzstan), Bibigül Qılımhan, and the “Kürenbel” trio.

 

Throughout the evening, vocal and instrumental pieces about the great poet's life and works were performed extensively, and the audience witnessed meaningful and emotional moments. The event ended with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the artists and a commemorative photo session.
