Commemoration of the 85th Anniversary of the Birthday of the Kazak author Abish Kekilbayev
An international forum dedicated to Abish Kekilbayev, the famous Kazakh author and people's hero of the Republic of Kazakhstan, on the 85th anniversary of his birthday was held in Aktau, Kazakhstan. The forum attended by authors, intellectuals, public figures and statesmen from many regions of the Turkic world also featured a conference during which participating scholars discussed the artistic personality of the author.
Also being a successful translator, Abish Kekilbayev is known for his translation of Lev Tolstoy's novel ‘War and Peace’ as well as of various novels and short stories by the world famous Kyrgyz author Chingiz Aitmatov into Kazak language.
Besides, Abish Kekilbayev is also known for having been the first author to create the character of ‘mankurt’ in his novel ‘The End of the Legend’. Thanks to Chingiz Aitmatov, this character became world famous as a social phenomenon later on. Hence, Abish Kekilbayev is not only a classic of Kazakh national literature, but also a leading figure of Turkic literature in general.
The forum was attended by the Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Erlan Koshanov, the Governor of Mangyshlak Mr. Nurdalet Kaghbay and the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture Mr. Sultan Raev.
