Commemoration of the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide in Keçiören
Held as a tribute to the memory of the innocent civilians who lost their lives in Khojaly, the commemorative ceremony, which took place in the presence of Mr. Mar Topoyev, the Representative of Kyrgyzstan to TURKSOY and Mrs. Laçin Ovazgeldiyeva, the Representative of Turkmenistan to TURKSOY gathered diplomats, representatives of political parties, leaders of civil society organizations, members of the press media and many citizens.
Participants who delivered speeches at the ceremony were Mr. Şamil Ayrım, the Chairman of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group; Dr. Atila Zorlu, the Deputy Mayor of Keçiören; H. E. Mr. Reşad Memmedov, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ankara; and Prof. Dr. Aygün Attar, the President of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Friendship, Cooperation and Solidarity Foundation along with the author and journalist Mrs. Serriye Müslümkızı, a witness to events in Khojaly.
The speeches emphasized that what happened in Khojaly was not only a crime against Azerbaijan but also a crime against humanity. Attention was drawn to the need to ensure that the Khojaly Genocide is not forgotten, that it is communicated to the international community in a more effective and determined manner, and that historical justice is served.
In particular, participants stressed the importance to act with a sense of shared responsibility in order to prevent similar tragedies from occuring again in the future.
