Commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birthday Bahtiyar Vahabzade in Adana

With the support of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture TURKSOY, a meaningful commemoration event was organised in Adana to mark the 100th anniversary of the birthday of the great poet of Azerbaijan Bahtiyar Vahabzade.

The event, organised by the High School  of Social Sciences of Adana named after Bahtiyar Vahabzade, was held in the school's conference hall  and gathered  Mr. Elçin Gafarlı, the Representative of Azerbaijan to TURKSOY, Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Uygur, Faculty Member at the Department of Language, History, and Geography of the Ankara University; Prof. Dr. Cahangir Novruzov, Çukurova University State Conservatory Director Prof. Dr. Ulviyye Akbaş Aslanova, academics, Provincial Deputy Directors of National Education Murat Sert and Erdal Sevim, District Director of National Education Necmettin Dardağan, District Branch Director of National Education Ahmet Kara, representatives of the Yuruk Turkmen Associations in Adana, as well as teachers,  students  and  many guests..

The commemorative event which began with opening speeches delivered by Mr. Mehmet Şahin Karataş, the Director of High School  of Social Sciences named after Bahtiyar Vahabzade, and Mr. Elçin Gafarlı, the Representative of Azerbaijan to TURKSOY went on with performances of teachers and students of the school who recited poems by Vahabzade and other Azerbaijani poets and sang songs composed on Vahabzade's poems.

At the event, Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Uygur presented a paper on Bahtiyar Vahabzade, his life and work in which he  stressed the importance of  the poet in the culture of the Turkic World.

At the end of the event, Mr.   Mehmet Şahin Karataş, the Director of the High School  of Social Sciences of Adana thanked the students and teachers who took the scene received a plaquette of TURKSOY dedicated to Bahtiyar Vahabzade  which was handed over to him by the Representative of Azerbaijan to TURKSOY Mr. Elçin Gafarlı.
