Commemoration of Dede Korkut in Ankara

The event which started with the painting exhibition of  Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World and a komuz concert by Kyrgyz artists, was attended by Governor of Ankara Vasip Şahin, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ankara H. E. Mr. Erkebulan Onalbekulı, the Rector of the Gazi University Uğur Ünal, the Advisor to the Minister of Culture Hakan Tanrıöver and scholars along with students.  

 

Delivering the opening speech of the panel, the Governor of Ankara Vasip Şahin underlined that Dede Korkut is one of the most important figures of the common culture of the Turkic World and expressed his satisfaction as to the fact that many students from different parts of the Turkic World attended the panel. Governor Şahin further  the importance of reading books and thanked Prof. Dr. Sami Güçlü, the founder of the Anatolian School (Anadolu Mektebi) for his valuable efforts. 

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Ankara H. E. Mr. Erkebulan Onalbekuly expressed his appreciation as to the initiative undertaken by the Anatolian School to ensure that high school students improve themselves by reading books. Ambassador Onalbekuly further approved of the fact that Dede Korkut, who is a well known figure in Kazakhstan has been included in the curriculum of the Anatolian School and said that this is a strong contribution to the common culture of the Turkic World.


In the message he conveyed on the occasion of the opening ceremony, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev stressed the fact that the participation of TURKSOY in this initiative as an organization which carries out activities to protect and promote the cultural heritage of the Turkic World is extremely appropriate  as Dede Korkut is not only one of the most important figures of the Turkic World  but also a gift to human culture.

Secretary General Raev’s message further stated: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prof. Dr. Sami Güçlü, the founder of the Anatolian School, for his strong contribution to the realisation of this valuable programme and the opportunity it offers for students from different regions of the Turkic World to reflect on the deep teachings of Dede Korkut. The world is going through troublesome times. If we stand on a solid ground, we will further continue to relentlessly work towards our ideals". 

 

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Anatolian School Prof. Dr. Sami Güçlü emphasized the importance of the Anatolian School movement as it encourages young generations to read books, which is the safest harbour in a world tormented with many issues. Prof. Dr. Sami Güçlü further said: "The purpose of the establishment of the Anatolian School is to ensure that future generations grow up in self.confidence and awareness so as to play their part in world history without having to give in.” 

 

The opening ceremony of the event held under the motto “The Anatolian School  Following the Footsteps of Dede Korkut” ended with a group photograph and the handover of plaquettes to participants  as a remembrance of the day.
