Celebration of the 690th Anniversary of the Birthday of Emir Timur with international events in Uzbekistan

International events organised in Uzbekistan to mark the 690th anniversary of the birthday of the great statesman Emir Timur were held with broad participation from the Turkic World.

Mr. Sultan Raev, the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), attended the cultural event held in Tashkent and examined efforts to preserve the Timurid legacy on site.

Hosted by the Centre for Islamic Civilisation in Uzbekistan, an international conference entitled “The Role and Importance of Emir Timur and the Timurid Renaissance in World History and Culture” was held on April 9th–10th, 2026. Bringing together scholars, artists and intellectuals, the conference examined Emir Timur’s contributions to civilisation.

Within the framework of his visit to Tashkent, Secretary General Raev, who was among the guests of honour of the event also visited the Office of TURKSOY operating within the centre and received information about projects being carried out.

At the event, Secretary General Raev  also had the opportunity to visit a special exhibition giving an insight into the profound impact of the Emir Timur era on world history. The exhibition, featuring visual and written works reflecting the artistic, architectural and scientific achievements of the Timurid civilisation, raised great interest among participants.

Later on, a screening of the film “The Great Emir and Donna Maria” took place.
