Boxing Championship to take place in Turkistan
Within the framework of the agreement reached between the Kazakhstan Professional Boxing Federation and TURKSOY in Almaty, the WBC Amateur TURKSOY Boxing Championship will be held for the first time in Turkestan, Kazakhstan in autumn 2024.
Representatives of the Kazakhstan Professional Boxing Federation came together with the Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev and the President of the Kazakhstan Professional Boxing Federation Rahimcan Erdenbakov in Almaty where they signed a cooperation protocol pursuant to which the first "WBC Amateur TURKSOY" Boxing Championship will be held in Turkistan, Kazakhstan in autumn 2024.
At the meeting, which was attended by Olympic medallist and two-time world champion Serik Konokbaev, President of the Kazakhstan Professional Boxing Federation, WBC (World Boxing Council) board member Oksana Seminishina, as well as the heads of the professional boxing federations of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, it was stated that the professional boxing federations of the Turkic States will make every effort to achieve the following goals:
- Promotion of professional boxing among young people in the Turkic-speaking countries;
- Encouraging co-operation in the exchange of experience in the field of sport among the participating countries;
- Supporting and encouraging talented boxers, as well as creating conditions for their development and career growth;
- Strengthening the ties of friendship and mutual understanding among the participants of the tournament.
In his speech, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev underlined the increasing importance of joint sports activities in TURKSOY's work calendar, noting that so far ski and horse races have been organised with the contribution of TURKSOY and he is very happy that the next event will be the boxing championship among the Turkic countries.
"Turks have always attached great importance to physical training, martial arts and courage of their soldiers. The Chinese wrote that the Turks are a nation 'easy to chase, difficult to defeat, impossible to destroy'," he added.
Last year, the "WBC Amateur TURKSOY" Championship was held in Kazakhstan in the form of an experience tournament with the participation of 500 people.
Speaking at the meeting held in a warm climate, President of the Kazakhstan Professional Boxing Federation Bolat Mankenov said: "In Kazakhstan, the tournament was held among boxers aged 15-16. The athletes wore helmets and fought 4 rounds of 2 minutes, the referees carefully watched all the blows. Our main task is to protect the health of the boxers, therefore we keep a close watch. This year, the World Boxing Council TURKSOY plans to organise 7 weight classes for the final bouts between boxers aged 15-16. In general, we will have 34 weight classes divided into two age categories, and the final section for 13-14 years and 15-16 years will last for 3 days."
While the official documents were signed at the meeting where it was decided to hold the "WBC Amateur TURKSOY" Boxing Championship in Turkistan in autumn 2024, it was further reported that preparations regarding the championship will be launched in the near future by the Boxing Federation of Kazakhstan and the Almaty representative office of TURKSOY under the leadership of the Advisor to the Secretary General Kayrat Mukanov.
