Alliance of Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World established in Shusha
Shusha, the 2023 Capital of Culture of the Turkic World announced by TURKSOY, hosted the establishment of an international alliance.
At the meeting held within the framework of the closing event of Shusha 2023 Capital of Culture of the Turkic World and attended by Aydın Kerimov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Shusha, Adil Kerimli, Minister of Culture, Adil Kerimli, Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan, Atageldi Shamuradov, representatives of the cities of Eskişehir, Sheki, Turkistan, Osh, Kastamonu, Bursa and Anev, Elçin Gafarlı, TURKSOY Country Representative for Azerbaijan, Salim Ezer, Head of Press and Publications Department, it was decided to establish the Union of Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World (TURKBIR).
The participants also unanimously approved the appointment of Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş as the President of TURKBIR.
Speaking at the meeting, Aydın Kerimov, Special Representative of the Presidency of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha, emphasised the importance of the establishment of TURKBIR in Shusha, the 2023 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World, and underlined that the Union will make significant contributions to the Turkic World with the joint declaration to be signed.
Following the opening speeches, the memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the Alliance of Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World (TURKBIR) was signed in order to contribute to the social, cultural and economic development of the cities declared "Cultural Capital of the Turkic World" by TURKSOY, to promote these cities in the international arena and to develop their tourism potential. It was decided that the first general assembly of the Union will be hosted by Bursa in the first half of 2024.
The Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality of Bursa Mr. Alinur Aktaş stated that he assumed an important responsibility on behalf of the Turkic World and thanked everyone for the presidential duty entrusted to him and Bursa.
Mr. Aktaş further said that they will meet with the authorised governors, presidents and representatives responsible for the capital of culture in the first half of 2024, and noted the following: "We will try to create a climate where both cultural, artistic and the codes of our ancient civilisation will be processed, but there will be interaction in terms of economy and tourism, and experiences related to urbanisation will be shared. Therefore, we will ensure that our city, which was the capital of culture even 8-10 years ago, will feel and feel it more with these activities. I wish it to be auspicious and auspicious."
Alliance of Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World (TURKBIR)
At the 39th Standing Council Meeting of the Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY Member Countries held in November 2022, hosted by Bursa, Mr. Alinur Aktaş, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality of Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2022, suggested the establishment of the Alliance of Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World.
The proposal, which aims to transfer the experiences gained during the Turkic World Capital of Culture process to all cities that will undertake this task, to institutionalise the Turkic World Capital of Culture processes, as well as to mutually transfer the existing urban and municipal experiences, was accepted by the Permanent Council and signed by the ministers of culture of the member countries. Based on the decision taken, the first working meeting of the local administrators of the Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World was held on 30 June 2023 in Arkadağ, Turkmenistan.
The memorandum of understanding for the establishment of the International Alliance of Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World (TURKBIR) was signed at the closing event of Shusha, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2023 in Shusha, which had taken over this prestigious title from Bursa.
