8th Women and Fashion Festival of the Turkic World to be held in Aktau

Within the framework of events to celebrate Aktau - the Cultural Capital of the   Turkic World 2025, the 8th Women and Fashion Festival of Handcrafts of the Turkic World will be held in Aktau on June 28th-29th, 2025 in cooperation of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) with the Province of Mangystau and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). 

 

This special event will  feature a fashion show along with a handicrafts’ exhibition, master classes and workshops to  be organised by renowned designers from the Turkic World, showcasing its rich civilisation with all its aspects ranging  from miniatures, kilims and carpets to traditional costumes, with an emphasis on aesthetics.

 

During the festival, masters of traditional crafts from the Turkic World and Kazakh craftsmen will come together with a thematic stage setting inspired by the Silk Road at the Amphitheatre in Aktau. Amongst many other crafts, the event will feature a 12-metre-long carpet made of felt, witth patterns from the Turkic World. This exclusive carpet prepared throughout the year with the joint efforts of handicraft masters, will then continue to be exhibited throughout the year 2025 as part of events to celebrate the Culturl Capital of the Turkic World 2025.

 

Women preserve and transmit culture to the future

 

In the Turkic World, women are not only the cornerstone of the family, but also the bearers of traditions, art and cultural memory. For centuries, Turkic women have shaped crafts with colours and unique patterns of their creativity, elegance and inspiration, playing a central role in our common civilisation. Hence, the aim of this festival is to honour women's key  role in cultural production and make them visible in the way they deserve.

 

The festival will feature crafts’ and fashion designers from 13 different countries and regions, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Hungary, North Macedonia, and the Russian Federation, as well as from Bashkir, Chuvash, Tuvan, and Kalmyk ethnic communities. Reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Silk Road, this event will offer a colourful insight into cultural and ethnic fashion elements.

 

The rich cultural heritage of Mangystau which has been ingrained in the spirit of the Kazakh people for centuries, will be introduced along with the cultural values and traditional garments the Turkic peoples with a modern touch of contemporary fashion.

 

The aim of the festival is to identify the common cultural and handicraft traditions of Turkic peoples through fashion and to promote these values both in their own countries and around the world.
