80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan celebrated with broad participation

A celebration event held with strong participation took place at the Presidium of the latter in Baku within the framework of celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

 

The event  moderated by the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Prof. Dr. Isa Habibbeyli, was attended by members of the Presidium, along with presidents and representatives of the Academies of Sciences of Türkiye, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, China, Vietnam, Italy, Bulgaria and Montenegro, as well as of various international scientific organisations.

 

In the opening speech he delivered at the event, Prof. Dr. Isa Habibbeyli stated that the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev had given a profound and conceptual speech at the 80th anniversary celebration of the National Academy of Sciences  of Azerbaijan and added that the President had highly praised activities carried out by the Academy as well as its clearly defined tasks for the future. Prof. Dr. Habibbeyli further said that the President's instructions served as a ‘roadmap’ for the Academy and that future work will be carried out in line with these instructions.

 

Habibbeyli also stated that the meeting, attended by 42 scholars from 21 countries, would make a significant contribution to the development of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and its international relations, the establishment of new partnerships and the strengthening of existing ties.

 

Speaking at the event, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev emphasised that they had gathered in Baku not just to celebrate a single institution, but to celebrate the 80-year glorious journey of a nation's scientific and cultural knowledge, stating, ‘The National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has contributed to the enlightenment, development and respectability of Azerbaijan, the first democratic republic of the Muslim East, by nurturing a group of invaluable scientists.’

 

Noting that every piece of research conducted and every work produced in this blessed place, which has brought together Azerbaijan's most valuable intellectuals under its roof since its establishment, serves to preserve Turkic culture, language, history and identity, Secretary General Raev said: "The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is the strongest expression and unchanging symbol of the intellect, memory and conscience of these lands. Today, as we celebrate its 80th anniversary, this cradle of science, with its history full of achievements, is the bastion of Azerbaijan's enlightened thought and the shared pride of the Turkic World."

 

Secretary General Raev stated that TURKSOY which works in close cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and has carried out numerous successful joint projects, will always stand by this unity and intellectual integrity. The Secretary General added that this scientific institution, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary today, will continue to shed light on the future of the Turkic World by further enhancing Azerbaijan's achievements in the fields of science and culture.

 

Also present at the event were Prof. Dr. Derya Örs, President of the Atatürk High Institution of Culture, Language and History in Turkey; Prof. Dr. Asaf Hacıyev, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC); Prof. Dr. Şahin Mustafayev, President of the International Turkic Academy; Prof. Dr. Roin Metreveli, President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences; Rector of Ankara University Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar, President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Dr. Evelina Slavçeva, President of the Union of Asian Academies of Sciences and Science Societies (ASSA) Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev, the President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan Prof. Dr. Allaberdi Ashirov, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan Prof. Dr. Kanatbek Abdrahmatov, Member of the Italian National Academy of Sciences Prof. Dr. Roberto Zelli, the Chairman of the Board of the World Union of Azerbaijani Scientists Prof. Dr. Mesud Efendiyev, and Member of the Permanent Committee for Humanities and Social Sciences of the Antarctic Scientific Research Council Ebru Caymaz who  each delivered a speech congratulating the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Azerbaijani scholars and discussed opportunities for cooperation, while  offering commemorative gifts.

 

In addition, congratulatory video messages from Prof. Dr. Kate Darian-Smith, President of the Australian Academy of Humanities, and Prof. Dr. Najeeba Arif, President of the Academy of Letters of Pakistan, were shown during the meeting.

 

While various medals were presented to Azerbaijani scholars by TURKSOY at the end of the event, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev presented the Gold Medal of Honour of TURKSOY to Prof. Dr. Isa Habibbeyli on the occasion of its 80th anniversary to National Academy of Sciences  of Azerbaijan.

 

At the event, Prof. Dr. Isa Habibbeyli handed over a medal dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan to Secretary General Sultan Raev.
