6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku

The 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue entitled "Dialogue for Peace and Global Security: Cooperation and Leadership in Connectivity" started in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The forum was attended by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev as well as by delegations of the Ministries of Culture of 60 countries, heads of 28 international cooperation organisations and representatives of many non-governmental organisations along with many scholars.

In the opening speech he delivered at the forum, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of multiculturalism. Stating that Azerbaijan has been a meeting place of cultures for centuries, President Aliyev said: “Our geographical location, our position between East and West made this trend possible. Azerbaijan's multicultural and ethnically diverse society has contributed to the preservationf of important values such as tolerance, mutual respect, friendship and partnership for centuries.” 

President Aliyev further said: "Representatives of different ethnic groups and religions live in Azerbaijan as one family. They are valuable citizens of Azerbaijan, true patriots of our state and statehood. We must strengthen these positive trends, cultural dialogue and cultural diversity. All this is a blessing of centuries. Azerbaijan is working hard for the signature of a peace treaty with Armenia. Peace negotiations are going on as based on our plans."

More than 700 participants from 100 countries will discuss the development of intercultural dialogue in 12 different panels and 4 plenary sessions. The forum organized with the  support of  organisations such as UNESCO, the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC), ICESCO and UN Tourism, will last for 2 days.
