6th Meeting of the Senior Officials’ Committee held in Aktau ahead of the 42nd Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY
The 6th Senior Officials Meeting, which brought together representatives of the ministries of culture of the member countries of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture TURKSOY, was successfully held in Aktau, the 2025 Capital of Culture of the Turkic World, prior to the 42nd Session of the Permanent Council.
Hosted by TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf, the meeting addressed cultural activities for 2026, the progress of joint projects, and new cooperation steps to strengthen the cultural integration of the Turkic World. Representatives of member countries met prior to the Permanent Council meeting and held comprehensive consultations.
The meeting was attended by Müslüm Alakbarov on behalf of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ardak Jusupov and Aygerim Izhanova on behalf of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nusubalı Jakypbekov on behalf of the Kyrgyz Republic, Shohruh Akbarov on behalf of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Yıldırım Büker on behalf of the Republic of Türkiye, Laçin Ovezgeldiyeva on behalf of Turkmenistan, and Sayit Yusuf, Deputy Secretary General on behalf of the Secretariat General of TURKSOY alonng with Vugar Memmedov, the Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan, Nışangül Karatayeva, the Representative of Kazakhstan to TURKSOY, Mar Topoev, the Representative of Kyrgyzstan to TURKSOY, Şevket Artikov, the Representative of Uzbekistan to TURKSOY, the Head of the Department of Personnel Support Murat Kahraman, the Head of the Department of Strategy Development Melik Özsöz, the Head of the Department of Communication and Information Technologies Salim Ezer and the Head of the Department of Relations with Turkic-speaking Communities Barış Cavid Mövsümlü.
Issues discussed in Aktau pertained to the main items on the agenda of the Permanent Council meeting.
The following topics were highlighted at the meeting:
Promotion of the common cultural heritage of the Turkic World and increasing its international visibility,
- Developing multilateral projects in the fields of youth, arts and culture,
- Strengthening cultural diplomacy mechanisms among member countries,
- Evaluating the preparation process for the 2026 Turkish World Capital of Culture,
- Fostering joint production and exchange programmes in literature, music, performing arts and visual arts.
Participants agreed upon the need to carry out cultural cooperation more effectively, foster coordination in joint projects, and increase the visibility of activities carried out by TURKSOY on international platforms.
Assessment by Deputy Secretary General Sayit Yusuf
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Deputy Secretary General Yusuf highlighted the importance of Aktau in terms of cultural cooperation in the Turkic World and stated:
"Our efforts to strengthen the cultural ties of the Turkic World and plan steps to transmit our common values to future generations are being further multiplied every year. The 6th Meeting of Senior Officials held in Aktau has once again demonstrated that our countries are united around a common vision in the field of culture. The preparations we made prior to the Permanent Council meeting have laid an important foundation as to the further strengthening of the cultural integration of the Turkic World."
The aim of the Senior Officials’ Meeting, traditionally organised by TURKSOY prior to the meeting of the Permanent Council meeting is to take note of ideas and suggestions of representatives of member countries so as to make sure that they are taken into account in the decision-making process.
