The art album published by TURKSOY and entitled "Reading Nezami Ganjavi" was presented at the National Union of Authors of Ukraine

Within the framework of commemorative events dedicated to the 880th anniversary of the birthday of the world famous poet of Azerbaijan Nezami Ganjavi  and carried out by TURKSOY on the occasion of the Year of Nezami Ganjavi which it declared,  an event to present the art album published by TURKSOY and entitled "Reading Nezami Ganjavi" was carried out in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.

On the occasion of the 880th anniversary of the birthday of the world famous poet and philosopher of Azerbaijan Nezami Ganjavi, an event to present the art album entitled "Reading Nezami Ganjavi" and published by TURKSOY within the framework of the commemorative year it declared  was carried out in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.

The event which took place on February 14th, 2022 and was hosted by the National Authors’ Union of Ukraine gathered TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kasseinov, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Ukraine H. E.  Elmira Ahundova, the Chairman of the National Authors’ Union of Ukraine Mikhail Sydorjevskiy, the Branch Director of the National Library of Ukraine Tatyana Dobko and Prof. Ferhad Turanlı who each delivered a speech.

TURKSOY Secretary General Kasseinov who greeted the audience and gave some information on activities carried out by TURKSOY to commemorate the great poet and philosopher of Azerbaijan on the 880th anniversary of his birthday expressed his pleasure to see the strong interest of Ukrainian citizens in Turkic culture and especially in Azerbaijani culture. Secretary General Kasseinov further said, “ The art album “Reading Nezami Ganjavi” published in English  features reproductions of paintings and miniatures by artists of the Turkic World who were inspired by this great poet and philosopher. This album  will be a strong contribution to the introduction  of the literature legacy of Nezami  to the people of Ukraine.”

In the speech he delivered at the event, the Chairman of the National Authors’ Union of Ukraine Mr.  Mikhail Sydorjevskiy expressed his pleasure to be organizing international events together with TURKSOY.

Mr. Sydorjevskiy who further said that one of these events was carried out in commemoration of Nezami Ganjavi, added that: “Nezami is a world-class genius and the people of Ukraine always pay tribute and respect to the memory of this distinguished poet of Azerbaijan. Indeed, Nizami's works have been translated into Ukrainian by distinguished authors of Ukrainian classics such as Leonid Pervomayskiy, Vasil Barka, Vasil Mısık and Mikola Miroshnichenko. Besides, famous authors  of Ukraine who made research on Nezami were Agatangel Krımskiy, Lev Lopatinskiy and Mikola Gulak. Hence, we are very happy to be contributing to the promotion of the literature legacy of Nezami Ganjavi in Ukraine”.

The Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Ukraine H. E.  Elmira Ahundova who also took the floor said that a memorial of the Azerbaijani poet Nezami Ganjavi was inaugurated in the city of Harkov last year  and added that another memorial dedicated to Nezami and his art will be inaugurated in the Botanical Park of the National Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev this year.

At the event moderated by the Ukrainian Representative of the Center of Multiculturalism of Azerbaijan Mrs. Marina Goncharuk, the scholars Tatiana Dobko, Olga Mavrina, Ferhad Turanlı and Svetlana Koronenko made presentations on the life and literature heritage of  Nezami Ganjavi as well as its influence on the literature of Ukraine. Students of the Faculty of Turcology of the State University of  Kiev Emilia Mamishova and Darya Ponomarenko recited poems by Nezami in both Azerbaijani and Ukrainian languages.

The event went on with a short recital featuring songs composed on Nezami’s works "Without You", "Beloved Canan" and other songs of Azerbaijan performed by the State artist of Ukraine Gurban Abbasov accompanied by the pianist Natalya Korolenko. The Ukrainian artist Marina Vishnevskaya who also took the scene playing the “bandura” instrument at the event performed the Azerbaijani folk song "Sarı Gelin" and a song composed by Fikret Amirov.

At the event, TURKSOY Secretary General Kasseinov handed over the “Medal of Nesimi” prepared by TURKSOY to  the poet and translator Pavlo Molchan, and the “Medal of Nezami Ganjavi” to Ambassador Ahundova and   to the Ukrainian Representative of the Center of Multiculturalism of Azerbaijan Mrs. Marina Goncharuk.
