Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2022 was presented in Sarajevo
Within the framework of activities carried out by TURKSOY to introduce Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic 2022, an event carried out in cooperation of TURKSOY and the Winter Festival of Sarajevo was held in the capital of Bosnia Herzegovina.
In the speech he delivered at the event held in the Yunus Emre Institute to introduce Bursa, the Director of the Agency of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World and Coordinator of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic 2022 Mr. Fetullah Bingül said that Turkey has a lot in common with countries of the Balkans, not only in terms of their common history but also in geographical and cultural terms. Mr. Bingül also drew attention to the fact that ties of brotherhood between Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina are being strengthened through various events.
Mr. Bingül who also gave some information on events which will be carried out in Bursa throughout the year further said: “The year 2022 will be a year during which events of major importance for the Turkic World and for our city will be carried out in Bursa. We are looking forward to welcoming our kindred peoples from Bosnia in Bursa.”

At the event, the Mayor of the Stari Grad Mr. Ibrahim Hacıbayrič also said that Bursa is a very special city with a precious spiritual heritage. Mr. Hacıbayrič who congratulated the Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Bursa Mr. Aktaş on the occasion of the declaration of Bursa as the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2022 also drew attention to the deep historical ties between Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Sarajevo H. E. Sadık Babür Girgin who said that both countries share a common cultural heritage due to their historical ties, expressed his happiness to welcome the delegation of Bursa in Sarajevo. Ambassador Girgin also stressed the meaningfulness of the fact that the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2022 is being presented with an event held within the framework of the 38th International Winter Festival of Sarajevo.
TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kasseinov who also took the floor at the event said that major efforts have been invested in the development of the interaction between Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World and European Capitals of Culture in recent years. Ambassador Kasseinov who further said that until today, it is precisely cities of Turkic states with the highest cultural and historical value which have been declared as cultural capital thanks to TURKSOY, also stressed that with its rich historical heritage, the city of Bursa fully deserves this title.
The event which took place in the presence of the Coordinator of the 38th International Winter Festival of Sarajevo Mr.Ibrahim Spahic also featured the opening of a photography exhibition introducing “Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2022.”
