Culture Days of Khiva
Culture Days of Khiva in Brussels will take place between November 15th-18th, 2021 and offer the opportunity to European citizens to get acquainted with this beautiful ancient city of Uzbekistan.
The Culture Days of Khiva organized in cooperation of the International Organizatiopn of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) with the EU-Uzbekistan Friendship Group of the European Parliament, the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Brussels with the support of the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and the Diplomatic World, international magazine based in Brussels will be start with an opening event featuring a concert and gastronomy show at the residency of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Brussels on November 15th, 2021. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion on “The Preservation and Promotion of the Cultural Heritage of the Silkroad – Impressions from Khiva, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2020” to be held in the premises of the European Parliament on November 16th, 2021. On the same day, a photography exhibition which will be open to visitors for three days will be inaugurated at the Representation of the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey in Brussels.
In the statement he delivered about the events, TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kasseinov said: “It is a great pleasure for us to see the evolution of our Project within the framework of which we have declared various cities of the Turkic World as its cultural capital every year since 2012. We are happy to witness the growing interaction between European Capitals of Culture and Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World. Brussels is the heart of Europe. Although this event primarily aims at the promotion of Khiva it also contributes to the strengthening of cultural bridges existing between peoples of the Turkic World and Europe. Let me therefore express my gratitude to all thoıse who supported the organization of these events held upon invitation of members of the European Parliament which will bring together decision makers of the EU, scholars and diplomatic missions as well as culture experts.”
The Founding Chairman of the EU-Uzbekistan Friendship Group and Member of the EP Ryszard Czarnecki said: “It is an honour for me to host Culture Days of Khiva in Brussels. Our Freidndship Group as well as European and Uzbek decision makers are aiming at the fostering of the dialogue between the business world and NGOs. We want to add value to existing initiatives linking the EU to Uzbekistan by focusing on cultural, artistic, touristic and academic activities. Our newly established friendship group will further keep focusing on activities bringing the peoples of Uzbekistan and Europe together.”
The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Brussels H. E. Dilyor Khakimov who also said a few words on the occasion stressed that: “Uzbekistan is a country of culture and traditions. As a cradle of civilizations, the city of Khiva which is located on the Silkroad has been a center of education, science and culture together with other cities such as Bukhara and Samarkand. We want to introduce our historical heritage to the world and turn this heritage into a leverage of development. In this respect, Culture Days of Khiva organized by TURKSOY on the 30th anniversary of the independence of Uzbekistan is of key importance to us.”
Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World
Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World are being declared upon decision of the ministers of culture of TURKSOY member countries at the Permant Council Meetings of TURKSOY. Since the beginning of this initiative launched in 2012, Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World have been Astana (Kazakhstan) in 2012; Eskişehir (Turkey) in 2013; Kazan (Tatarstan) in 2014; Merv (Turkmenistan) in 2015; Sheki (Azerbaijan) in 2016; Turkistan (Kazakhstan) in 2017, Kastamonu (Turkey) in 2018; Osh (Kyrgyzstan) in 2019 and Khiva (Uzbekistan) in 2020. This prestigious title contributing to the promotion of capitals of the Turkic World along with the rapprochement of peoples will be borne by Bursa (Turkey) in 2022.
