Summit Meeting of Leaders of the Turkic World in Turkistan
The Unofficial Summit of Leaders of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking Countries (Turkic Council) took place in Turkistan.
The Unofficial Summit of Leaders of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States which was planned to take place on March 31st, 2021 under the motto “Turkistan, the Spiritual Capital of the Turkic World” but had to be held by means of a video-conference took place under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasım-Jomart Tokayev with the participation of the founding President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Elbasy and Honorary Chairman of the Turkic Council Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shovkat Mirziyoyev, the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of the Republic of Turkmenistan Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov, the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, the Secretary General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreyev, the Secretary General of TURKSOY Dusen Kasseinov, the Secretary General of TURKPA Altynbek Mamayusupov, the Chairman of the International Turkic Academy Darkhan Kydyrali and the President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Gunay Efendiyeva.
Heads of Member States of the Turkic Council expressed their best wishes on the occasion of Nowruz which symbolizes the revival of nature and the beginning of a new life with the spring equinox.
Heas of States who also congratulated eachother on the occasion of the nearing 30th anniversary of the independence of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and expressed their gratitude to the Republic of Turkey for having immediately recognized the independence of Turkic Speaking States in 1991 stressed the notable development of Turkic Speaking States in social and economical terms in the recent past.
The Heads of States further stressed that they attach particular importance to fostering mulitlateral ties in the Turkic World and underlined their commitment to the further deepening of their mutual cooperation.
The Heads of States of Turkic Speaking Countries who also refered to the liberation of territories of Azerbaijan from military occupation expressed their appreciation as to the fact that the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been resolved. The Heads of States of Turkic Speaking Countries further reiterated their determination as to the definition of a vision and goals to be achieved for a closer cooperation and stronger solidarity in the Turkic World.
The Heads of States who stressed the valuable achievements of the Turkic Council since its establishment confirmed their intention as to the strengthening of the role of the Turkic Council in ensuring cooperation and coordination within the Turkic World while further promoting and supporting values and interests of the Turkic World both on a regional and international scale.
Heads of States who also stressed the importance of economic cooperation as a tool contributing to peace, stability, security and prosperity for their people asserted the spiritual importance of the city of Turkistan in terms of its capacity to bring peoples of the whole Turkic World together.
Heads of States further praised the legacy of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi, the founder of the Turkic Sufi Order who had a strong influence on the development of philosophy in the Turkic World and stressed the necessity of further mutual consultation regarding regional and international issues which have an impact on interests of the Turkic World in order to ensure that member states of the Turkic Council take a joint position in line with the Nakchevan Agreement on the Establishment of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking Countries.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev who took the floor at the summit said: “The modernization of Turkic civilization should start with the worldwide promotion of the heritage of Akhmet Yassawi and Sacred Turkistan. This is why this summit is being held under the motto “Turkistan, the Spiritual Capital of the Turkic World”. Indeed, upon initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the city of Turkistan experienced a radical change which gave it a new look.”
In his speech, the Founding President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Honourary Chairman of the Turkic Council Nursultan Nazarbayev made a suggestion to the Heads of States of Turkic Speaking Countries. Nursultan Nazarbayev who said that Turkic Speaking States must pursue their development further added: “We have to adopt the document on the future of Turkic Council. At the summit held in Baku, I had suggested that the level of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States be raised to that of an organization. We can learn much more from eachother besides human and cultural development. Adopting the Latin Latin alphabet would ensure a common system encouraging our further development on a global scale. Indeed, we think that it is important for countries to develop together.”
The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov suggested that the name of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking Countries (Turkic Council) be changed so as to become “Organization of Turkic States”.
At the summit, the city of Turkistan was declared Spiritual Capital of the Turkic World.
