Chingis Aitmatov was commemorated in Kosovo
On the 90th anniversary of his birthday, the famous Kyrgyz author Chingis Aitmatov was commemorated in Kosovo
A commemorative panel was held in Pristina on the "Life and Work of Chingis Aitmatov". The panel organized within the framework of the Year of Chingis Aitmatov 2018 declared by TURKSOYtook place in the Yunus Emre Institute of Pristina, the capital of Kosovo on October 22nd, 2018 and gathered the MP of Kosovo and Chairperson of the Authors' Union of Kosovo Dr. Flora Brovina along with the Chairperson of the Union of Turkish Authors of Kosovo Zeynel Beksaç as well as representatives of official representatives of foreign delegations in Pristina, scholars of the Department of Oriental and Turcology Studies of Pristina and representatives of other institutions and organizations of Kosovo and Turkey along with many guests.
In the speech he delivered at the event which started with a short presentation film on the life and work of Chingis Aitmatov the Director of the Yunus Emre Institute of Pristina Dr. Mehmet Ülker expressed his happiness to be commemorating the 90th anniversary of the birthday of Aitmatov, the world famous author of the Kyrgyz people. Mr. Ülker further also added that all steps necessary will be taken as to the translation of Aitmatov's works into Albanian language so as to make them accessible for Kosovar readers.
The the MP of Kosovo and Chairperson of the Authors' Union of Kosovo Dr. Flora Brovina who also said a few words at the meeting stressed that she was extremely impressed by Aitmatov's works although she only read the translations thereof. Dr. Brovina further added that Aitmatov's works play a key role for the Turkic World as they reflect its culture, art, music and traditions and introduce them to the world from one generation to the next. Dr. Borvina who also drew attention to the fact that Chingis Aitmatov was nominated for the "Nobel Prize" further said: "Aitmatov may not have received the Nobel Prize, but in the hearts and minds of his readers, he does have received the greatest prize. Despite the fact that none of his works have been translated into Albanian language yet, we are commemorating him today on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of his birthday and the 10th annniversary of his death . This, clearly stands as a testimony of the fact that he was a great author and illustrious personality".
The opening speeches were followed by a panmel discussion which took place with the contribution of Prof. Dr. Gulzüra Cumakunova, Dr. Oraz Sapashev, Dr. Oğuzhan Aydın, Mr. Zeynel Beksaç and Dr. Flora Brovina who presented their papers on the life and work of the legendary author of the Kyrgyz people Chiengis Aitmatov.
