2nd Theater Festival of Caspian Countries
The Second Theater Festival of Caspian Countries organized in cooperation of TURKSOY with the Governorate of the Province of Mangystau in Kazakhstan will take place in the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan between September 13th-16th, 2018. The festival which was held for the first time last year takes place with the contribution of private, municipal and state theaters of countries located on the coast of the Caspian Sea.
The aim of the festival is to strengthen cultural ties and foster the exchange of experience and repertoires among theaters of countries located on the coast of the Caspian Sea. This year the festival is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Kazak actor Nurmuhan Janturin.
The Second Theater Festival of Caspian Countries will introduce selected works by authors from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran, the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan to the amateurs of art in Aktau. The festival which will take place in Aktau between September 13th - 16th this year will feature performances of eight different theater plays including three plays from Kazakhstan, and one play each from Azerbaijan, Bashkortostan (RF), Tatarstan (RF), Turkmenistan and Iran.
The festival will start on Thursday, September 13th, 2018 with an opening event gathering protocol members, directors of state theaters, artists, guest theater ensembles and journalists in the N. Janturin Musical Drama Theater of the Province of Mangystau. Following the press conference, the festival will go on with a performance of the famous Azerbaijani author Huseyin Cavid's play "Devil" (Iblis) by the S. Amutbayev Menzelin State Drama Theater of Tarastan (RF) which will take place in the Little Theater Hall at 11.00 a.m.. The official opening event of the festival will take place in the Big Theater Hall on the same day with the contribution of all theaters which will participate in the festival.
Growing interest in the festival
The festival which will be attended by thousands of spectators will feature 8 performances by nearly 200 artists from 5 different countries.
Plays to be performed this year are as follows:
"Yehuda" by the State Academic National Drama Theater from Azerbaijan, ‘Spadeless Caique in the Ocean of Love" by the Kemine Mary State Drama Theater from Turkmenistan, "The Woman Coming from the Past" by the Nur Ufa State Tatar Theater from Bashkkortostan, "Devil" by the S. Amutbayev Menzelin State Tatar Drama Theater from Tatarstan (RF), "You Took Yourself From Me" by the Bileh Savar Barbod Theater Ensemble from Iran, "Abyss" by the G. Musrepov Kazak State Academic Theater of Young Spectators from the host country Kazakhstan, "Caligula" by the N. Janturin Musical Drama Theater of the Province of Mangystau and "Gallows Tree" by the Akmola Provincial Russian Drama Theatre. The jury of the festival will be comprised of theater critics from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia.
The festival which is taking place for the second time is raising more and more interest every year. Plays performed by private, municipal and state theaters of countries located on the coast of the Caspian Sea are contributing to the further development of mutual cooperation and exchanges of repertoires among theaters of the Turkic World.
TURKSOY which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year contributes to the art of theater through its annual gatherings of theater directors of the Turkic World. Within this framework, TURKSOY also translates theater plays by authors from its member countries into various languages and introduces these works to the world. Various seminars and competitions held by TURKSOY throughout the year also contribute to the creation of new works.
