Panel on "Founders of Turkic-Islamic Philosophy: Masters of Wisdom from Turkistan to Anatolia"
On November 2nd, 2017 a panel entitled "Founders of Turkic-Islamic Philosophy: Masters of Wisdom from Turkistan to Anatolia" was held in TURKSOY Headquarters.
The panel hosted by TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General
Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtas and featuring presentations on founders of
Turkic-Islamic philosophy gathered the Chief Advisor to the President of the
Republic of Turkey Yalçın Topçu, Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, the Chairman of
the Board of Trustees of the International
Akhmet Yassawi Kazak-Turkish University, Prof. Dr. Musa Kazım Arıcan
from the Department of Philosophy of the Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Prof. Dr.
Kazım Sarıkavak from the Department of
Philosophy of the Faculty of Science and Literature of the Gazi University,
Prof. Dr. Aşırbek Müminov from the Research Center for Islam History, Art and
Culture - IRCICA), Prof. Dr. Cevdet Kılıç fromm the Faculty of Theology of the Tracean University,
Prof. Dr. Anar Iskenderov from the Faculty of History of the Baku State
University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zeki Ibrahimgil from the Department of Art History
of the Faculty of Literature of the Gazi University, Assoc. Prof. Dr Osman Şimşek from
the Center for Scientific and Methodologic Research - ILMAR, Prof. Dr.
Dosay Kencetay from the Akhmet Yassawi International Kazak-Turkish University
and Prof. Dr. Kazım Hacımeyliç from the University of Sarajevo along with many scholars, journalists and students.
Prof. Dr. Purtas who greeted the audience on behalf of
Secretary General Prof. Kasseinov stressed the strong contribution of ILMAR,
the Center for Scientific and Methodologic Research which carries out academic
activities to raise awareness as to a unified concept in Turkic Islamic
civilization, to the organization of the panel.
Prof. Dr. Purtas further quoted Khoja Akhmet Yassawi’s
words “It is our destiny to be a Turkic people, and it is our choice to be
Muslims. Turkic peoples have been honoured and blessed with Islam". Mr. Purtas further
said that in line with these words, the words “Turkic” and “Islam” are used as synonyms in many place of the
world. Prof. Dr. Purtaş added: "Turkic means Muslim. Turkic peoples’
interpretation of Islam is based on morals and this concept of morals is
largely influenced by traditions and customs which existed before Islam. One of
the pioneers of this philosophy is Khoja
Akhmet Yassawi of Turkistan. The aim of
this panel is to discuss our perception of the world which is rooted in our
moral philosophy.".
In the opening speech he delivered at the panel, Mr. Yalçın
Topçu stressed that from the Adriatic
Sea to the Great Wall of China, Turkic civilization has been a synonym of justice and rule of law
throughout history. Mr. Topçu added that Turkic Islamic civilization embraces a
philosophy of preservation and protection towards all living beings including
the environment. Mr. Topcu further said
that Turkic Islamic civilization embraces a philosophy of protection and

maxims: “If you have a sapling in your hand, plant it, even if you see that the
end of the world is coming”, and "Do
not express condolences to a child whose bird died".
Mr. Topcu who also stressed the importance of papers
to be presented at the panel added: “I believe that this panel organized by TURKSOY
will contribute to our unity in language, thoughts and actions as stated by Ismail
Gaspyraly”.
Mr. Topçu further said that the duty of the Turkic
World is to claim the legacy of our ancestors’ wisdom and to preserve our
values by educating people to do so".
The panel on "Founders of Turkic-Islamic
Philosophy: Masters of Wisdom from Turkistan to Anatolia" went on
with presentations by scholars from Azerbaijan,
Kazakhstan, Bosnia-Herzegowina and Turkey. Panelists discussed the legacy of illustrious personalities of the Turkic
World such as Khoja Akhmet Yassawi, Muhyiddin Ibnu'l-Arabî, Imam Rabbani, Yunus Emre, and
Mevlana and their conception of justice, ethics and humanity.
