The winner of the 31st International Altın Karagöz Folk Dance Competition was Kazakhstan
The 31st International Altın Karagöz Folk Dance Competition organized in cooperation of TURKSOY with the Metropolitan Municipality of Bursa took place in Bursa within the framework of the 56th International Festival of Bursa organized by the Foundation of Culture Art and Tourism of Bursa. The winner of this year's competition which brought together 22 different cultures of the world in Bursa was Kazakhstan.
Folk dance ensembles from Argentina, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bashkortostan(RF), Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, China, the Philippines, Georgia, India, Montenegro, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, the TRNC, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Chili, Tatarstan (RF) and Uganda introduced their culture with colourful dances they performed in various places and districts of the city.
Dance ensembles of the Turkic World whic took part in the competition upon invitation of TURKSOY were the "Jangi" Ensemble from Azerbaijan, the "Kazyna" Ensemble from Kazakhstan, the "Agat-Taajy" Ensemble from Kyrgyzstan, the "Altynai" Ensemble from Tatarstan (RF), the "Veselinka" Ensemble from Bashkortostan (RF), and the State Folk Dance Ensemble from the TRNC. The ensembles enchanted the audience with their colourful traditional costumes and creative choreographies.
The international jury of the competition was composed of Mustafa Turan from Turkey, Arman Nurmakhamatuly fropm Kazakhstan, Tarana Muradova from Azerbaijan, Ilyuza Nugmanova from Bashkortostan (RF), Blagica Iliç from Macedonia, and Moon Hyung Song from South Korea this year. Upon evaluation by members of the jury, the first prize of the competition called the "Golden Karagöz Award" went to the Kazyna Dance Ensemble from Shymkent/Kazakhstan. The Special Prize of TURKSOY which is awarded every year at this competition went to the State Folk Dance Ensemble from the TRNC this year.
The dance ensemble from Kazakhstan which took part in the competition with the support of the Governor of the Province of Southern Kazakhstan won the First Prize and"Golden Karagöz Award" amounting to 5 thousand euros. The "Silver Karagöz Award" amounting to 3 thousand Euro went to the ensemble from Moldova and the "Bronze Karagöz Award" amounting to 2 thousand euros went to the dance ensemble from Georgia. The dance ensembles from Romania and Azerbaijan received the honourable mention.
Following the award ceremony, the winner of the first prize from Kazakhstan performed its dance show once again.
