Directors of National Libraries came together in Astana

On June 26th-27th, 2017, a symposium entitled "A Reading Nation in a Reading World"  was held in Astana which hosts the  EXPO 2017 this year. The symposium gathered many representatives of international organizations along with directors of national libraries, directors of museums and many other guests.

The symposium organized by the National Library of Kazakhstan with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan took place at the same time as the Meeting of Directors of National Libraries of Turkic Speaking Countries organized by TURKSOY every year.

The meeting gathrered the Director of the National Library of Azerbaijan Kerim Tahirov,  the Director of the National Library of Kazakhstan Umithan Munalbayeva, the Deputy Director of the National Library of Kyrgyzstan  Gulnara Baytakova, the Director of the National Library of Turkey  Zulfu Toman, the Deputy Director of the National Library of Bashkortostan (RF) Lusiya Ilyasova, the Director of the Department of Libraries of the Cultural Administration of Gagavuzia (Moldova)Evgeniya Lulenova, the Deputy Director of the National Library of Sakha Yakutia Mariya Andreyeva, the Deputy Directof of the Scientific Library of the State University of Kazan, Tatarstan (RF) Yuliya Leksina along with the Director of the Museum of National History of Azerbaijan  Naile Velihanlı, the Director of the Ataturk Center of Azerbaijan Nizami Ceferov  and delegations headed by directors of libraries of various other countriesi.

The symposium which lasted to days featured presentations of papers on “Culture and Society : Innovation and Transformation in Information Processes", "Libraries as Modern Media of Digital Technology and Intercultural Communication", "Children's Literature and Contemporary Education: Tendencies and New Perspectives", "The Role of Libraries and Museums in Social and Cultural Life", "Written Monuments of Cultural Heritage".

Within the framework of the Fifth International Conference  held on June 27th, 2017, Directors of National Libraries of Turkic Speaking Countries  exchanged information on national libraries of participating countries as well as on  activities they carry out throughout the year.

The event also featured a photography exhibition of TURKSOY entitled  "Colours of the Turkic World".
