Artists from Turkmenistan won the first prize of the 30th International Karagoz Folk Dance Competition of Bursa

The 30th International Karagoz Folk Dance Competition of Bursa organized within the framework of the 55th International Festival of Bursa carried out by  the Metropolitan Municipality of Bursa  in coordination of the Foundation of Culture and Art of Bursa  took place in the Open Air Theater of Bursa on July 13th, 2016. The first prize of the competition was won by competitors from Turkmenistan.

The competition which took place with the contribution of contestants from Bosnia Hersegowina, Bulgaria, Algeria, Djibuti, Georgia, India, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyrus (TRNC), Montenegro, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Kosovo, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mexico, Poland, Romania, Chile, Tunesia, Turkmenistan, Jordan and Greece was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the independence of Turkic republics.

The event featuring colourful folk dance performances of competitors wearing their traditional garments took place in the presence of a large audience.

The jury of the competition was comprised of Mustafa Turan from Turkey, Arman Nurmakhamatuly from Kazakhstan,  Leysan Hametova from Tatarstan, Ilyuza Nugmanova from Bashkortostan,  Blagica Ilich from Macedonia,  Moon Hyung Song from Korea and Dieter Wagner from Germany. Contestants from Turkmenistan (the Serpay Ethnografic Folk Dance Ensemble)  won the  "Golden Karagoz Award" as well as five thousand Euro. The second and third prize of the competition were won by Georgia and Chile respectively.

The contestants from Kazakhstan were handed over the Special Award of TURKSOY.
