Yusuf Has Hajip was commemorated in Macedonia on the 1000th anniversary of his birthday

The great poet, scholar and philosopher of the Turkic World, Yusuf Has Hajip was commemorated in Gostivar, Macedonia on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of his birthday.  Upon unanimous decision of the Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY member countries at the 33rd Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev, the year 2016 was declared Year of Yusuf Has Hajip.

Within the framework of the Year of Yusuf Has Hajip, a panel entitled "Yusuf Has Hajip's Legacy in Turkic Culture" was held on April 25th, 2016 at the International Vision University in Macedonia.

The panel held in the ceremony hall of the university  took place in the presence of the State Minister of Macedonia Hadi NEZIR, the Second Clerk of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Skopje  Yusuf Ziya KENAR, TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General  Prof. Dr. Fırat PURTAŞ, the Rector of the International Vision University  Prof. Dr. Fadıl HOCA, the Director of the Turkish Cultural Center of the Yunus Emre Institute in Skopje  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet SAMSAKÇI, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Macedonia along with many other guests.

In the speech he delivered at the opening ceremony of the event, TURKSOY Deputy Secretary General Prof. Dr. Fırat PURTAS stressed that  Yusuf Has Hajib is an important figure not only for the Turkic World but also for our kindred peoples living in the Balkans  and added: “Yusuf Has Hajib is the author of the first work of written literature of the Turkic World "Kutadgu Bilig". He is an important reference in the history of the Turkic World as well as in the history of the world in general. We have  declared the year  2016 as year of Yusuf Has Hajip in the Turkic World in order to commemorate this illustrious personality and to introduce the cultural heritage he left behind to future generations. It is a great pleasure for me to be holding this event together with our kindred peoples in Macedonia, the pearl of the balkans within the framework of the Year of Yusuf Has Hajip 2016. It is a great honour for us to have brought you together with scholars from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey for the first time thanks to the illustrious  philosopher of the Turkic World  Yusuf Has Hacib".

The host of the commemorative event and Rector of the International Vision University  Prof. Dr. Fadıl Hoca who also took the floor at the opening session of the event said ''We are very happy to be welcoming our guests here today on the occasion of this commemorative event to pay tribute to the legacy of Yusuf Has Hajib. Thanks to the cooperation agreement we have signed with TURKSOY in February this year, we are giving you the opportunity to attend this  panel, and we look forward to the continuation of our fruitful cooperation. It is a great honour for us to be cooperating with TURKSOY which is the UNESCO of the Turkic World''.

The panel entitled "Yusuf Has Hajip's Legacy in Turkic Culture" featured presentations of papers on Yusuf Has Hajip's life and work  by  Prof.Dr. Babek GURBANOV from Azerbaijan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oraz SAPASHEV from Kazakhstan, Dr. Saida BURKHANIDINOVA from Kyrgyzstan and Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Omer OZKAN from Turkey.  The panel ended with a performance by the minstrel   Kul Nuri who greeted the audience with melodies from Anatolia.
