Closing Events of 2015, the Year of Haldun Taner
The closing events of the Year of Haldun Taner declared upon suggestion of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey and unanimous approval of Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY member countries took place in Ankara on December 8th, 2015.
Within the framework of its commemorative year traditionally declared every year to pay tribute to illustrious personalities of the Turkic World, TURKSOY did not only publish works of Haldun Taner in various Turkic languages and dialects but also held panels, concerts, exhibitions and festivals. This has been the first time TURKSOY has dedicated its activities to the commemoration of an intellectual from Turkey.
At the closing ceremony held in the Headquarters of TURKSOY authors who participated in the Haldun Taner International Competition of Theatre Plays were handed over their awards.
The closing events which started with the award ceremony held in TURKSOY Headquarters at 03.00 pm ended with the performance of Haldun Taner's play "I Close My Eyes and Do My Job" in the Little Theatre of the State Theaters of the Republic of Turkey at 08.00 pm.
Record Number of Applications to the Haldun Taner International Competition of Theater Plays
As an activity aiming at the introduction of Turkish theater to the public through Haldun Taner's works as well as at the strengthening of the existing cooperation among Turkic republics in the field of theater, the Haldun Taner International Competition of Theatre Plays has been one of the most notable activities carried out by TURKSOY within the framework of this commemorative year. The competition which aimed new theater plays being written by authors of the Turkic World featured many applications with plays in Turkish, Azerbajani, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Turkmen, Uzbek, Tatar, Bashkort, Chuvash and Gagauz literary languages and dialects.
At this first competition of theater plays of the Turkic World with authors from 18 countries and regions, authors from Bashkortostan(RF), Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Gagauzia (Moldova) and Turkmenistan qualified for the award. The awards were handed over to their winners by the Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Nihat Gul, the Director General of the State Theaters of the Republic of Turkey Nejat Biricik, TURKSOY Secretary General Dusen Kaseinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkey Janseyit Tuymebayev and the Chairman of the Eurasian Authors' Union Yakup Omeroglu.
