The “Arshin Mal Alan” Operetta

The famous "Arshin Mal Alan operetta" of the Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hacibeyli which was performed on September 17th, 2013 in Paris and on September 19th, 2013 in Strasburg within the framework of the 20th Anniversary Celebrations of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), was performed at the State Opera and Ballet of Ankara  on October 27th, 2013. Following its Premiere performance for the 2013-2014 season, this illustrious work of the first professional composer of Azerbaijan, Uzeyir Hacibeyli will now be performed at various venues throughout the year.

About the Arshin Mal Alan Operetta itself

This operetta which is one of the most important works of its kind has been translated into many different languages and achieved great success throughout the world. It was also filmed several times in Baku as well as in the USA in 1937 and was performed at major artistic venues of   London, Paris, Berlin and Moscow.

The operetta features the story of Askar, a young and rich salesman who feels depressed due to his loneliness and wants to marry the woman of his dreams. However, according to the traditions, he may only see the face of his wife-to-be on the day of the marriage. So, how can he be sure to marry the woman of his dreams under these circumstances? His faithful friend and business partner Suleyman suggests him to visit every houshold as an itinerant salesman…
